Seems like the forum is getting overrun with bots these days. Something needs to be done. Maybe a change to the registration process? Something requiring admin approval?

Can something be done to make it harder to register fake accounts? I don't know maybe pay CloudFlare or some more hardcore security services.

Not too long ago I would have said that the coincidence would be pretty crazy, but these days I would be more surprised if no bot replied.
 
I know that not too long ago a mod/admin instructed us to STOP reporting spam posts. assuming people actually did as instructed, im sure that's helping to make things worse. they have been given free reign.

OMG I missed that post, I have been reporting all that I see, I hope I don't get banned for discriminating against spammers and bots!!:wow:
 
It looks like someone did a little cleanup. I made a bad reply in a bot post and it botted me back list night. that thread is gone.

The problem is that is all people are doing. Just deleting them. But they are popping up with more and more frequency. They need to do something to cut them off at the pass.

why would they say to stop reporting spam?

random thought, some bots can be site made to pump up forum view counts to be the "most viewed 4runner forum".

just a thought
 
They are pretty obvious to spot. Just ignore and read the real threads. They eventually get deleted.

This shit has been happening in forums for who knows how long and probably always will since they adapt to security changes.

The problem is that they're getting harder to spot for people and the frequency has increased dramatically.

I disagree with the "don't report" idea. as I believe once one bot is on the site, they can somehow "invite" others. the faster they are removed the less the problem will be. so just ignoring them is the wrong move.


I noticed this on another site I mod for. we had a system in place to track IP's, and often times the member/bots would share IP's.
