Bought a set of trail rims, which is the spare?

Hi all,

I bought a set of five 2014 4Runner Trail rims (the new 7-spoke version) that someone had taken off new. Just rims, no tires. All of the rims look identical. My question: which one is the spare? Is there one that is the designated spare? My LE spare has a fugly greenish color to it. The trail rims I bought look identical. If one is a "spare" I can't tell. Any help?

Do they still have the TPMS sensors? If so, the one without a TPMS sensor is/was the spare. If not, and they are the same, it doesn't matter.

2010-2013 TEs had a black, steel spare.

I doubt he left the TPMS sensors on them, they would have needed them for their new set, I would look into the lug holes to see which ones have the marking from the lug nuts. It doesnt really matter though

No tpms sensors. So, the older trails have a black steel spare and the 2014's have a regular rim? That seems strange.

Actually, my set might have come from '14 FJ. I'm pretty sure they are identical to to the trail rims.

If the spare is unused (and since it's so new I would imagine this would be the case), you can carefully inspect the lug nut seats and the mating hub surface on the back of the wheel. Almost positive you will see 4 in similar condition and 1 in slightly better condition. Use a jeweler's loupe if needed.

LOL...a bit much...just pick 4 and be done with it...rotate the other one in and it won't matter.

BTW - my '14 GX had exactly the same wheels all around but of the five, the unused spare (0 miles) had what appeared to be the most wear from just sitting underneath the truck. So you never know...but agreed the lug nuts seats are the place to look if you really want to know.

Doesn't matter, just pick a rotation pattern.

My Trail had cheep steel rim for spare. It is in scrap metal yard now
But to answer your question, just pick any 4, put TPMS on and call them done.
