BRAKE HELP!!!! please...

Howdy,

Getting ready for a trip and thought I'd take apart the front brakes to have a look as they were making some noise. Found they have plenty of meat on the bone BUT I am getting conflicting information on correct assembly. Please see images.

When I took them out they had the slotted shim on the outside against the pistons. Looks like it should be on the inside with the smooth silver one on the out side contacting the pistons.

I also can't decide on using any disc brake quiet. CRC disc brake quiet says don't use on on shimmed brakes. Haynes manual actual has photos of the exact CRC product being used and putting the slotted shim in the middle.

Can't find any direct info so apologies if this has been gone over ad nauseum.

For the record I think I should use the CRC and put the slotted in the middle with the smooth silver contacting the pistons.

Oh yea…should I use disc brake quiet on the pistons as well? Haynes has images of such...

Well…I figured it out…somewhat..

If others are accessing sometime in the future make note: as per FSM

1. Slotted shim goes in between the pad and the solid silver shim

2. Use brake grease on back of pad, on both sides of the slotted shim, and both sides of the solid silver shim. And of course all the hardware/pins and contact points.

CRC ends up being some sort of sticky "silicone" type gel/glue. I can't imagine "glueing" the pistons to the pads as per the Haynes manual method.

My noises are gone.

Thx,

Zulch
