Brake lights constantly on?

you may have missed the update, but i did buy a new switch, same result. the suggestion is the relay is bad, so i suppose with the ignition on, but brake pedal not engaged, electricity is flowing to the brake lights.

i believe with the ignition off, the brake lights get their electricity directly from the battery. with ignition on, they get there power through that system.

maybe teach can clarify this thinking.

You're learning quick now! Have you done anything yet like look at those fuses or the relay? Your engine relay fuse box should have a diagram on the inside of the lid. Same with the fuse box by the parking brake.

well, earlier i looked a the fuse box in the engine. i looked at, and even swapped, the 10A fuse that is associated with the STOP lights (VSC, other stuff). both fuses were good, nothing changed. i didn't notice any other item in the box that would be relevant (used the operators manual box diagram/explanation).

are you saying the suspected relay is inside the fuse box?

Did you check the 20a ig2 fuses also?? The same fuses should be at the inside fuse box also so that's four fuses. What year is your truck I believe mine may be a little different I'll check it out for you. I'm not sure if you have stop lamp relays or not. The fuse diagram should tell you that.

If you have a test light you should have battery voltage at the stop fuses at all times. The ig2 fuses shouldn't have voltage until the ignition switch is turned on

My 5th gen is a little different so I'm not sure about color but your diagram should match. Unplug it and test it in the warmth. On the right track!

ok, pulled the R13 relay. brake lights inoperable, as well as VSC dash lights did not return upon start up. suppose only option is to source a replacement?

for reference: superseded part number for that relay is 90084-98032. about $45 discounted. it isa denso part, maybe direct buy?

jumped on ebay, ordered a used superceded relay with a 1 yr warranty and tested for $10 shipped. better than gambling on a $50 part.

Well you need the relay plugged in for the stop lights to work. It's a switch. That doesn't tell you if it's good or bad. You need to test it before you buy another part dang it. Hopefully that's the problem though.

no, haven't done that yet. been busy today, but did want to return the pedal switch and get the used relay purchase achieved ASAP.

i believe the VSC lights came on the same time the brake lights started running full time. using the same relay.

Yes the stop switch signal is an input to the skid ECU. Did you say that went away with the relay out?

I may have missed that. Look at the wire diagram, check the relay and fuses. Possible relay is stuck in power instead of switching
