Brake upgrade?

So is putting v6 2nd gen calipers on a 4 banger 1st gen a direct bolt on? Are the pads the same or would I have to get 2nd gen pads as well? Just found out my RF is locked slam up so thinking now is the best time to upgrade.

For an IFS front end, you'll need new pads, calipers, and rotors all from the same donor truck. It'll all bolt on. If you go for new parts, tell the guy at the parts house it's a 1995 T100. For a solid axle truck, you can use the "V6" calipers and pads but will need an FJ60 rotor.

I'm running V6 calipers and stock rears on the stock MC/booster and don't have any trouble with pedal feel, but some guys do - you can upgrade to the 1" MC and dual diaghram booster from the same donor if you run into trouble.

I would suggest the brake booster from any 90-90 toyota truck or 4runner (engine doesn't matter) since they are all dual diaphragm boosters. As for the brake master cylinder, use one from a mid 90's fj80. They are still a 1" bore but they have an internal proportioning valve. IF you want a bigger mc than 1" you can use a mc from a 95t100 1 ton and it will have a 1 1/16" bore.

The 1st and 2nd gen trucks and 4runners use a lspv above the rear axle with a return line. That means there are 3 ports on the master cylinder. The fj80 only has 2. Use the fj80 mc and delete the lspv to simplify the brake system. If you do delete the lspv you will want to get a residual valve to maintain some pressure in the line for the rear brakes. If you keep the drum brakes you'll want to use a 10lb valve and if you swap to disc in the rear you'll want a 2lb valve.

Here soon I'm going to go through the whole brake system on my 4runner and I'll do a complete writeup on the whole setup for front/rear brakes, booster and mc.

I don't believe it is adjustable, it's all internal. I don't know the split either, I would imagine it's about 70/30 or 60/40... somewhere in there.

On my '85, I installed a t100 booster, 1" bore MC, blocked the LSPV at the T in the front wheel well, and added a summit racing proportioning valve (kit from FROR). Paired with my V6 calipers, FJ rotors, and completely rebuilt rear drums, I can lock up my 37's on pavement.

Luckily you can move all of that to your 87 and just swap the front rotors to a 90-95 rotor.

Yes, I will be swapping everything over and rebuilding the brakes on the '87 rear axle. Not sure what you mean about the rotors, I'm going to keep the FJ vented rotors I currently have on the axle.

Never mind about the rotors. I had a brain fart and forgot that you were swapping the axle over as well. I was in IFS mode there.
