Brakes Pads Out After 20K?

Whats up guys.

Got my '15 Limited serviced at the dealer the other day and they told me my rear brake pads were at a 3 and needed replacing.

I just got all front and rear done less than 20K miles ago. They said I would have to bring the truck back so they could do a further inspection this week to see what's going on.

Anyone experience their pads running out this quick? I wasn't expecting to change out the pads for at least another 30K miles, so curious to know what may be going on.

I know there are tons of factors involved, but I don't drive all that often and its usually never in the city.

Are you using OEM toyota pads and rotors? I just put my 3rd set on at 180,000. Replaced the first factory set at 100k. All OEM.

I'm at 45k miles and my pads still have 70-80% life left on them.

The wife's 14 LE:

New...then:

Front pads at 18500
Rear pads at 28700
Rear parking brake adjusted at 37450
Front pads at 46450
Rear pads at 49500

I try and tell her that it's not a race to each stop light and stop sign. Sigh...

The rears have always been OEM and the fronts are EBC Orange heavy duty.

I will be changing the fronts in about 24 months from now.

Yep, all OEM. I bought the truck with 35K and replaced all pads at 50K. Truck just hit 70K and they're telling me that it needs the back pads again. Just seems weird, like either there's something causing it or they didn't do something right.

Guess I'm just curious if there's some kind of warranty from the dealer to where pads should last at least a certain amount. I'm wary of this dealership considering they put in a new battery last time and it turned out to be faulty and I've gone back twice to fix a rear seat that won't go down after paying them to fix it.

Try a harder pad akebono and brembo rotor improved my x5 before I sold it for my Trd orp

I would check all the pads myself to see if they match what the dealer told you; and also to check that they are wearing evenly (front to front and back to back).

me too, at 30k and they are getting replaced soon. they tell me its from the abs and all of the safety features they put in. they also told me it depends on your driving style, first 30 was mostly short trips, work was only 7 miles, we moved, now its 15. btw, gas mileage shot up, average 19-20 now

I am trying an aftermarket kit (forget the name, if you are interested I will look it up) but its for heavy duty brakes, slotted and drilled. it will cost me 1/2 of oem. gonna try it and see if it works or not, at 1/2 off, its worth the try

66,000: rears resurfaced rotors and replaced pads with OEM
75,000: fronts resurfaced rotors and replaced pads with OEM

I am not easy on brakes, but I don't ride my brakes either!

It will really depend on the kind of driving you do. If you're going on the highway and maintain speed (aka don't live in Los Angeles), you'll get tons of mileage out of it. If you're normally doing stop and go driving, then you'll get much less mileage out of them.

I replaced front/rear on my 2015 4WD Limited at about 45k. I'm nearing 90k now and expecting to replace the front soon (based on feel, not measurement). I do a lot of driving, but have a good amount of stop/go in traffic, or holding the brake like a madman on steep downhill off road descents. OEM pads were used at the replacement.

My wife/boss (and I have no shame in that) keeps asking me "I want my truck to run like your truck. Why doesn't my truck act like yours?". That's about as technical as her description gets and I just tell her...in your 3 mile commute to work...why do you care?

She also chews threw tires and I rotate them every 5k. Yet I can't get 20K out of a set of tires without the shoulders (and it's aligned) going. Sorry.... off topic but I just started down that thought track.
