brakes rattling/clicking noises

HI !

I've seen couple threads about similar problem most of guys doesn't figure out where rattling noises comes from .

I have brand new new brake set on front (rotors,pads, calipers) and I just done brakes on rear ( pads and rotors)

before I did brakes i had these noises noticeable while crusing with low speed and windows rolled down .
right now is a bit better but still these noises makes me so mad ,I feel like drive pice of shit car ;(

what might causes these clicking ? its for sure brakes cause when i press a brake pedal noises comes out


i was thinking about brake caliper pins or these clips holding a pad in a caliper but I'm not really sure
everything looks tight so far

I'll be thankful for any suggestions. I'm gonna check this out on Saturday

Hey man get 2 packs, each pack has a pair so if you want to put them on the bottom and top on each side remember to get two.

my dealer doesn't have this special anti rattling kit . just regular shims and asking 60$ lol
when I was doing my brakes I've noticed broken slide pin boots and rusted pins so I went to napa and order whole caliper with bracket and hardware for 113 each (If I'll bring my old ones)

Buy your calipers from a place with lifetime warranty. And Yea, the caliper should cone with the thin spring. I don't have 2 on each side, just the regular 1, and never any rattling problem.

Part number 04947-35050
"FITTING KIT" for the front and I'll use the OEM shims on rear brakes after I install new caliper . I'll post up how it goes

they don't have these springs for rear brakes
i guess shims must be enough to fix this annoying noisew

Nope, the rear doesn't have them so you'll only need two.

Edit: Should have not replied without scrolling all the way down. But yup your on the right track.
Man, you don't understand how happy i was once my rattling noise went away. It was driving me nuts!

good ! I got 2 packs and they are coming from California so I need to wait till Thursday . could you explain to me how to install them ? my mechanic skills are poor am I need remove pads from caliper ?
i did my brakes only cause I got knowledge from this forum .

If I have rattling pads on rear means my shims has to be replaced ? I installed new pads but I left my old shims . anyway it was hard to put new pads in and they aren't move so idk.

Yea, they're really easy. I'll pickup another set and add them to the top. I tried finding pics on the forums but no luck. I'll post some pics tomorrow or Friday.

Before doing anything to the rear do the front first and see if it fixes the noise. If the rear is rattling you might want to check that the pads didn't require the metal shims. I know the ones i got had them embedded in the pads (similar to picture below). Not only that, the pads were very tight in the rear calipers for me too, so i don't think they'd be making noise.

You could, however, the tension provided with the auto store parts does not prevent rattling, however, the Toyota OEM ones will prevent rattling since they provide more tension from the clips. Trust me, I bought both. Go with OEM.

I just replaced these on my front brakes. The noise was really bad, I had never replaced them in 200k miles. Got two sets for the front (top & bottom). The noise is completely gone now.

While your language would suggest an almost scientific certainty, one backed up with numerous studies and data points to show a clear causal link; it can't be because if so, I wouldn't be able to say with as equal non-scientific surefullness that in all my pad changes I have never used a Toyota anti-rattle spring and have silky smooth brakes.

my front calipers rotors and pads are new . about 130000km on them . They were replaced by previous owner at toyota dealership . they rattling bad so that's i decided to put these springs . I'll post up after this weekend how it goes

I really recommend these anti rattle springs ! my brakes are quiet , no more weird rattling ! I put one on each side . works well .

Also installed new rear calipers on rear . 4runner is smooth and quite again . love it !
