Breaking ABS Brakes on a 2009 Limited?

Okay - old school guy trying to understand 4th gen systems. I'm thumbing through the manual -and the 500 search results trying to find a fix. The 4xN I do often is in a "no-mistake" area. Its 1000'+ down and the ultimate penalty if I make a mistake. There is no turning back. The granny on many vehicles takes care of most of the engine breaking -but abs can give you that oh' slip-n-shi* that for me will be certain death. There are some situations where the "controlling your skid" aspect of abs will skid you a foot where you didn't have an inch. I need a way to provide predictable braking handled by old fashioned knowledge of the surface I'm on.

Can someone point me to a post where someone has done a late model mod to disable abs - put a switch in abs or is one of these newfangled switches the mod at my finger tips if I'd only RTFM?

There's a fairly common mod at the FJC forums. A couple of guys have done it on the T4R. It involves installing a switch to open and close a wire at the brake master cylinder.


The downside of the mod is it also defeats ATRAC when activated.


I know that's not much help but due to the popularity of the mod w/the FJC crew I'd try searching there a bit if nobody else chimes in.

couldnt you just pull the abs fuse out when 4x4in and put it back in when you are done. the dash light will come on but you could deal with it for an hour or two

if i am not mistaken, if youlock the center diff in hi or lo, abs, track and vsc is disabled leaving a-track on

Just back from Wyoming trip. Snow - mud. Seemed to work. I had it in granny with the center diff locked when it was above zero and the mud/snow combination wanted to send me into the trees. Couldn't really tell if it was working - but seemed to.

I've got a rattle that started when I put in Cornfed and can't seem to locate. I'll fix that and reaccess when I get that noise to stop. Everything seems tight - but when I get on rough road where the suspension drops into a whole - the front right wheel well sounds like metal on metal - something loose. Anyone with Cornfed experience that? Wondering if it was maybe the Xreas shock broken or something.

I havent seen it written before about the ABS. Heard about track and vsc being disabled but not verified ABS yet.
