For real??? I gotta get me one of those bumpers!! :thumb3:

I really like the idea of painting the body--I almost did it to mine a couple weekends ago! I think I'll do it now. Makes it MUCH less noticable. Looking very nice Brian...cleans up well, but always ready to hit the trail!

Thanks man! Yeah, I'm very glad I painted under the flares. I don't think most people would ever notice now (unless they have a 3rd gen maybe).

And speaking of hitting the trails.. I ran Pilot Rock and Dishpan today and I finally popped my CV cherry. 1st time I've ever actually broke one. I sheared the hub side off the CV when I was high centered on a rock patch. Ball bearings went bouncing down the trail. Took about 45 minutes to fix it on the trail. Wish I had some pics, but I was more concerned with just getting it fixed. Jason or somebody might have some pics though.

Also, thank you to Gerdo for a fine gas tank skid! It got the hardest pounding I've ever ever given it today and it held up great! I like it when people make products that work the way they should!!

i still have factory CVs, for some reason i think factory CVs are far better but just cost too much. knock on wood i dont ever break a cv

Sorry to hear that Brian, was it at dishpan Where it happen? Only carnage we had in our group was a bent tie rod.

I'm not 100% sure. Wyatt noticed the busted CV after I went up the waterfall at Dishpan (aka Ballbuster). I had to take 3 fully-locked tries at the same line I've done a dozen times with just the rear locked, so it was definitely before the waterfall. I got high centered on that nasty rock section right before that too, but I was hearing a weird click noise since the beginning of the trail and was having a hard time with everything so I think I might have broken it right after the trailhead on that 1st big rock.

If you wheel a lot, it'll probably happen sooner or later. But yeah, I think OEM CVs are the best.

Locking the front is part of my "phase two".. Are you using ARB? opinions, would you do it over again?

Yeah, I would do it over again. I have used my front locker many times before I broke a CV. And CVs break with open diffs a lot too. The front locker has got me over things that I wouldn't have made it over otherwise lots of times now. And yeah, I have ARBs f&r.

I did install the factory 9.25 wrap LC coils. Un-loaded it had a great lift/rake. They ride great and flex great but... On my Moab trip, loaded with a few days of camping and wheeling gear, it squatted to about the same lift as when I had my 891 coils in. This is unacceptable.

I'm getting ready to replace the test set of factory LC coils on my 4runner. I was hoping, but didn't think, that they would carry my load and give me the lift that I wanted.

Why did you go with the 861 over the 851?

I'm still confused
Cruiser Outfitters
OME 861 220#, wire size .630, heights 18.90/19.29

OME 851 220#, wire size .669, heights 18.70/19.09

Differences in height:
861 is taller than 851 by .20"

I'm not sure how the wire size comes into play when the spring strength of the 851 & 861 are the same.

Looking at Slee's site
OME861 | 0.25" lift | 110-250 lbs
OME851 | 2.5" lift | 0-110 lbs

I would like ~4.5" of lift.

Im not sure exactly why he chose these springs, but i helped them install them...and They are really long. Pretty exciting to install as well. :) It really helped out with all the weight of the heavy cbi tire carrier.

before this setup both he and I were running 891's with 2 10mm trim packers and the rubber cones. The only reason for all of that is because I was having my springs fall out when flexing :), and Brians truck was sagging. Its about 4" of lift on my runner, but my bumper doesnt weigh much

Brian: im down in riverside, but wont be back in the area till end of august, we should meet up sometime and go wheeling! Ive got to install my BL and Front bumper first though, if you know anyone close by thats good and wants to do a little work on the side and make some $$ installing let me know!!

I went with the 861s over the 851s for a couple reasons. When I talked to Dylan at Toytec, he recommended them for my extra weight and said that's what he was running at the time as well as a few other guys in Colorado and all of them liked the way they rode. The other reason was the wire size was the same as the 891s so I knew they would work (wasn't sure about the 851s).

I don't know how wire size comes into play with spring rate either, but at the time I was under the impression that 851s were stiffer. I don't know if that's correct or not though because I've never seen anyone in person with 851s to compare mine to.

I would say I have a little over 4" of lift back there with my bumper and all my gear. You'd probably be looking at ~5" with your weight. That's with my cones in too (I put them back in because the coils were rattling around and annoying me).

On a side note, the "B" coil goes on the driver's side with the 861s. It's ~3/16" or so longer than the "A" coil. My guess is the gas tank is on the other side on a Landcruiser?? Mine sits pretty level with the B on the D/S.

Yeah, I had to use a spring compressor to get the D/S coil in when I put the cones back in. You weren't around with your crowbar!

I'm down to wheel with ya. I could help you install that stuff too. Although, I'm leaving for Indiana in a few days. Going to go watch the 100th anniversary of a little race you may have heard of called the INDY 500!!

Nothing big to report, but today I changed out my amber fog lenses on my small 55W KC lights for the clear driving ones. The lights came with 3 sets of lenses - amber fogs, clear fogs and clear driving lenses. I aimed them pretty wall-eyed and high so I could use them to light up the sides of the trail. I'm anxious to find out how well they do tonight...

Brian, gotta say your Runner is one of my favorites on the forum. I can't wait til I get back to the States so I can start working on my 4Runner again, hopefully one day I'll get my going as good as yours. It's an amazing rig, great job with everything you've done.

Thanks! Are you deployed with the military?

Yeah I'm active duty, not deployed down range or anything (though I've been trying) I'm stationed over in Italy.

Bought something today that's been a long time coming....

I can't wait to get these things on! I also got some inner tie rods today because my originals have some play like a mofo after 210K!

Nice!

I'm curious where you bought them and for what, if you don't mind. I'm in the process of pricing them out right now. I hope to buy by Friday.

The Calipers I got from Autozone (part #C9950 and C9951) for $154.99 ea. with $75.00 cores for each. They're remans, but they have a lifetime warranty! Not too bad ($79.99 each after I bring my old calipers back). The Autozone by my parent's has almost all female employees (I'm sorry if I sound like a male chauvinist, but I shouldn't have any problem returning my 4runner brakes for the full cores there). The girl that helped me today didn't know what these even were.

I got the rotors, pads, and new brake lines from Napa.
Rotors (#NB 4886931) were $51.99 ea.
Pads (#TS TS7877X) were $44.99 for all 4
Brake lines (#UP 38986) were $10.99 ea. (mine were cracked and ready to break)
I also got the 10% AAA discount from Napa.

I don't have the combined total though because I bought some oil and other stuff while I was there too. I think it was right about $340 total w/ tax (including the brake lines) for just the Tundra stuff.
