To see your rig on 35's... Diggin the wheel well clearancing too. You and J$ are methodical when you put your mad scientist hats on.

Another thing that we did during the clearancing that I forgot to mention was, the 35" tire hit one of the pumps on the washer fluid reservoir. There are 2 pumps on the reservoir (one for the front windshield and one for the rear). The tire rubbed badly on the plastic skirt that covers the reservoir and also the pump itself for the rear windshield and all the tubing coming out of it. So I removed the skirt for good and I had to remove the pump for the rear. No big deal to me, I never really used the sprayer for the rear much anyways and at least the front sprayer still works. Now it just barely rubs the body of the reservoir when it's at full compression and full lock, but definitely not enough to make me want to make a custom reservoir. This rubbing was with the strut removed also, so I doubt the strut will even compress enough to allow it to rub on the trail.

When you take the pump out, it leaves a large hole so I think I'm just gonna stick a cork in there and call it done..

On a side note, I was a little worried that a 35" tire wouldn't fit on my CBI bumper next to my custom cooler holder, but it just squeezes in there!..

I also made some hoops a couple of weeks ago to protect the rear quarter panels, and also to make the bumper not look stupid now that I removed my flares.

When I ordered the CBI, they didn't specify the width at that time so my bumper was made to fit flush with Limited/Sport flares. With no flares, it sticks out a couple inches and looks not quite right.

I'll be welding the hoops so the front part sits on top of the "shelf" (the part that sticks out) so it will look natural. The rear part of the hoops will be welded to the side of the bumper. They are much taller than they will be once they are installed, I just made them extra long so I could choose how high I wanted them to be..

Nicely done. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Thanks, I can't wait!

I also ordered a B&M 70268 SuperCooler today because I need to do this before I get the worst strawberry milkshake of my life! I got mine from Streetsideauto.com for $52.75 shipped! That's about the cheapest I've ever heard of so check them out if you're in the market for a tranny cooler.

Brian,

I recall you recently replaced your radiator and were not planning on installing a trans cooler. What made you change your mind?

I only have 5,000 miles on my new Koyo and wouldn't think of replacing it for 5 years at least and I think that is being paranoid.

Wow Brian with all that weight back there I sugest you start looking for some way to add some weight to the front. Maybe you can find a creative way to add some wieght to the engine compartment.;-)

I replaced my radiator not so recently, it was in '05 or '06. But in my case, age isn't my worry. I noticed my trans temps are significantly hotter now with my truck all loaded down with tools and armor because the hump on the floor gets hotter now. So I'm mostly worried about my tranny! But, the elimination of the milkshake when I bypass the stock tranny cooler is a great bonus!

Lol! Hmmm.. let's see, how much do 80 horses weigh? :)

Important Additional Info on Clearancing for 35s w/ a Sledge!

I forgot to mention earlier that if you clearance for 35s like I did in the front, you need to remove the interior plastic panels in front of the doors, down by your feet on both D and P sides. We had to shave a 1/4-1/2" off the side and bottom of the panels with a razor knife to make them fit right once we banged the firewall in with the sledge. And in case you are wondering, pounding the firewall in extensively like I did does not interfere with the pedals or your leg room whatsoever.

On the passenger side, the ABS computer is attached to the side of the body, behind the panel mentioned above. You may want to remove the ABS computer before you start pounding because the bottom corner of it may come into contact with the floor, and I'm sure the vibrations probably aren't too great for it either. Mine was ok, but I disabled my ABS years ago so I didn't give a crap if I broke it anyways, lol. If you like your ABS, then I'd remove it.

Man, looks like you're well on your way towards fitting those 35's in..Whew, there's alot I can sure learn from this exciting build..

On a side note, I really thought you already have a tranny cooler installed by now, funny how I imagined that.

Well done!

I gots me a question!

I got a flat on a trail today (damn sharp rocks. who do they think they are?) which prompted me to search the globe (AKA craigslist) for a replacement which would get me by until i could afford 35's. But wait! Theres more! I found a set of 35's for cheap so i said HELL YEAH and they are going on this week!

So back to the question at hand. I saw on your 1st post that you have a 1" spacer on the front only. So that is all you needed to clear the uca with the stock spare wheel? (which i assume has the same specs as the split 3 spokes which is what i am running)

That's sweet about the 35s! Yeah, I cleared the ucas even at full droop with only a 1" spacer and stock 4 5/8" BS. I've since ordered some 1" spacers for the rear too because I'm going to have some rubbing issues with the inside of the D/S rear tire and the gas fill tube. The 1" spacers should make that minimal though.

I installed my B&M 70268 tranny cooler today. Don't have pics because it looks the same as everyone else's. I followed BigFishAllDay's write up on how he routed the lines and and mounted the cooler and it worked out great. Changed my engine oil and filter at the same time.

I also made and installed some 1.5" rear bump stop spacers (which I made out of cutting a 3" rubber mallet in 1/2 and drilling a hole in it). The reason I did this was to limit some of my flex back there so I wouldn't have to cut the CBI bumper to fit my 35s without rubbing at full flex. I think they'll work good.

I also realized that one of my rear shocks had pushed through the lower of the 2 top bushings after hearing a squeeky noise for a 1/2 a day. It made it so the nut on top would bottom out before the shock was tight. The bushing was pretty bored out from the welded washer that it sits on (which pushed through the bushing). I ended up just turning the bushing upside down for now and I put a larger fender washer under it to keep it from pushing through again. It'll last for a while like that. I tried to get some new bushings, but I went to 2 different parts stores and neither had any bushings near the right size so I gave up and reused it. Oh well.

Congrats on the tranny cooler. Bummer on the bushing issue. You really need to quit post on your build thread till you got pics of 35's under that thing! LOL the suspence.:dammit:

I bought some stock 5 spokes from Maclean216 over the weekend for a great deal (thanks Bill!!) and I got my 315/75/16 Cooper Discoverer STTs mounted on them today!! I was going back and forth on painting them gunmetal or black, but in the end, I miss the way my truck looked with the old alloys so I decided to leave them alone...
for now anyways.

I'm gonna do my inner TREs tomorrow (because they seem to have play in them) and I also ordered a new steering rack guide which should be here this week. Gotta fix the steering before I can put these big 'ol suckers on!

I still have to trim the back fenders too, but I should have little to no rubbing on the road (and the front is already clearanced) so I'll just trim the back whenever I get time. I'm waiting for a set of 1" wheel spacers for the back which should be here tomorrow too.

But for now, here's a teaser pic...
