How would you say the drop in hids work in the stock headlights without projectors?

I think they are fine, as long as you have the 99+ clear lens housings. I wouldn't try them with the diffuser (96-98) lenses. I like the increase in light and like I said, no flashing from oncoming drivers.

You could also build a headlight relay wiring harness, to get more power to the headlights. I started, but never got completed this project. Bought the parts from Daniel Stern Lighting.

Also, Silverstars are better than stock bulbs for sure and easy to find, but far from the best out there.

...cheap and easy way to make my headlights a little brighter, specially in high beam.

...And, the schematic people keep posting on here does not seem to work right....
So, I recommend just buying the wire harness. Maybe someone can give us a link.

Upgrade bulbs increase light output. However, inherent flaw with most headlight circuits (explained by Daniel Stern) still remains. Upgrades only mask the problem, and in the case of higher than standard power bulbs, could actually hasten the demise of your dimmer-combo switch.

Try this mod if you have first-gen or similar switched-ground dircuit

Cheap (uses only one relay and AWG 12 wires) but not easy for many

Does anyone have a wiring schematic for DRL equipped 4Runners? I'm considering putting HB3 Hi/Low HIDs from DDM Tuning in my truck, but I need to disconnect the DRL first.

Theres a whole connector just for DRL that you have to disconnect to disable it.

A nice quality headlight harness

No connection with this product other than being a pleased and satisfied customer:
For those that want an aftermarket upgrade headlight wiring harness, please check out Susquehanna Motorsports(rallylights.com). I used one of their harnesses for 10 years in my old 91 truck, and am now acquiring one for my new 97 4R.
They are, in my opinion, made correctly. You will not be disappointed in the quality of the construction: Heavy duty, 12G wire throughout.
The part number for my '97 4R is HL28200S(switched ground, H4 headlights). Cost is on the high side, about $123 this time--they were cheaper ten years ago!

Just buy some hella 500 driving lights around 120$ if you look around and mount them on your front bumper they work really well and will outperform any headlight bulb upgrade

I used to run the Silverstars (overrated) then I upgraded to 64205 Osram Rallye 70/65w bulbs. They are a conservative upgrade and do not really require a relay install due to a drastic wattage increase like other off-road only bulbs might.
