Micro DE HID retrofit

Mod Objective: Replace Micro DE halogens with HIDs, get more output from fog light position.

Mod Steps:

• Remove backer plate on Micro DE
• Install HID, replace backer plate trapping HID bulb
• Depin and feed through grommet

Not yet, I need to modify the back enclosure then I can start thinking about mounting them. Still waiting on some connectors as well.

Today was BMW day... Extremey frustrating block coolant drain plug, but the bad wp is now replaced.

ARB Front Locker

Purpose: Climb trees...

Install was done by local diff shop. I had them do the mechanical, I ran the electrical and wiring. Its connected to the modified OE switch on the dash.

Rear shocks on. No rub at full stuff.

It looks like they did a very clean install! Looks great, and I bet it rides even better. Whenever I need to rebuild my rears I think I will have the CDC installed.

The new shock mount has me a bit intrigued... Other than looking sweet, and making it easier to remove the shocks, what benefits come from moving it outside the frame like that?

Thanks man. I should meet up with you one of these days after work. I see you got some new bumpers recently. I also kind of want to see your 285/tundra spacing. My wheels are the same offset but have 265s so want to measure. =}

As to the shocks, mounting them outboard gets more bump travel. the 4runner is pretty limited with the shocks mounted in oem spot. If you get longer travel shocks, you end up with longer bodies requiring longer bumps.

A friend of mine is putting an S54 with ITB's in his E30. So I've gotten use to looking at them haha. Ya I can imagine an E46 M3, or any BMW, can be a little maintenance happy, but I'm sure it's worth it.

Ran the 4runner around Montana and Idaho and into Glacier NP this past week. The new rear icons perform much better. I was able to maintain better control of the rear end on washboards. The rear didnt seem to walk around at all. Coupled with the light racing bumps, the slamming of the rear is completely gone. Large whoops are much more controlled front and rear. Very happy with the suspension.


The GF was driving stops on a hill, and says, do you want to hop out and get a picture of your 4runner? :angel:

Finally got my amber silver bulbs in so I put on the older 98 bumper on my 99. Bolted right up to my 99.

The limited flares I had to drill new holes for. I think the old bumper is a bit taller or something. Ill verify later but they went on ok.


You'll notice the older bumper face is a bit taller than the later ones, about 1". So your limited flares from 99+ are going to be a bit off. You can see the small gap since I didnt re-trim mine. It was getting late and I wanted to get done. I'll probably go back and trim the flares because I think I am sticking with the 98 bumper.

Can you explain this a bit more? What wasn't exactly right when you first put it in, in terms of the flares? I ask because I want to put a 98 front on my 02 and need to know what I'm up against. I have limited flares.

I can take a picture if you'd like when I get home.

Essentially the 98 bumper chrome section is roughly 1" taller/thicker than the fatlip. The overall distance bumper top to bottom of rubber valance is the same. Said differently the ratio of bumper to valance is not the same between years.

If you look closely at your flare, you can see that the bumper flare hugs the valance and bumper. There is a protrusion at the bumper valance interface.
