Black Carpet and Sound Deadener

Objective: Replace smelly old carpet, add MLV, butyl matt, and CC foam to damp noise

Processes:

• Obtain full mass backed carpet from stock interiors
• Remove carpet
• Lay old carpet on new, rough cut sides and holes
• Install butyl mat on entire rear, floor pans, hatch, and rear sides
• Install CC foam on all horizontal surfaces, and backside of door cards
• Lay MLV on rear horizontal, floor, and trans tunnel
• Lay in carpet, trim to fit
• Reuse rear seat cards, use CA to attach carpet

What is your plan for mounting the spare tire carrier? I have a Hilux Surf now with the carrier and I am relocating to WA in 2 months (from Japan) and will be picking up another 3rd gen when I arrive. I'm going to bring parts from my Surf with me but was trying to find out if just removing the carrier is enough or should I cut out the re-enforced part of my rear quarter as well. Thanks.

I think its just as easy to weld in some tube for support. The instructions are around but might take some searching.

DC Power 180A Alternator

Purpose: Replace failing OEM alternator, update to 180A

Install:

• Loosen bolt under alternator
• Loosen casting bolt
• Remove cable cap, remove cable
• Remove alternator connector
• Remove serp belt
• Remove alternator
• While I am in there, remove PS belt
• Remove airbox
• Loosen PS adjuster bolt
• Loosen PS mounting bolts
• Remove PS belt
• While I am in there, remove AC belt
• Remove skid
• Loosen AC tensioner
• Remove AC belt
• Reinstall AC belt
• Install PS belt
• Retention AC belt
• Retention PS belt
• Reinstall alternator
• Install Serp Belt

Objective: 'Unlimited' - Remove limited silver cladding, put on 02 sport flares, paint rear bumper, paint front bumper and valance


Process:

• Remove silver cladding
• Replace 2 front doors of same color
• Replace 2 rear doors of same color from sport model
• Swap mirrors, windows, door cards, speakers
• Swap wiring harnesses in doors
• Replace front fender flares from sport
• Replace flare mount brackets
• New fender trim strips and clips
• Weld rockers
• Obtain 98' Canadian badlands edition primered front bumper, front bumper flares
• Paint rockers, bumper, and flares, touch up doors as required
  

Flare removed, fender brackets shown, the rear needs to be replaced with the sport flare style

So many holes, note the rocker needs to get welded side and bottom

This is an easy fix with front valance.

You're looking for a SR5 with wide flares. The sport emblem could be added but the flares are on other than sport models. Not precisely what your question was but understood your intent.

I did a combination of yard crawls, local and dropped in on yards when on road trips. I found some flares on ebay and online. The rear SR5 doors in DD will be the hard item to find. The fronts will be from any DD non-limited. Took maybe a month or two of looking but found all but the front right flare in DD (I ended up painting one).

I'm planning to swap out the cargo cover holders in the trunk with mini-folding tables with cupholders. Anyone else modded their cargo cover holders in the trunk?

On a road trip last year I used a bucket of window wash at a gas station on my headlights to clean off all the bugs. Something was in it that ate the clear coat off the headlights. I had been rolling with these discolored lights for some time and was a constant irritant.

I wasnt sure I could fix it with a restore kit, and didnt want to screw them up further. Today was the day, either it was going to get better or I'd be buying a new set. I bought a 3M kit and it seemed to work well. Not sure if it will hold up to time, but huge improvement.

Where do I get these headlights? I saw them once in a post from Russia. Also saw some dual bulb corner markeres.

Objective: Get more light in the back hatch

Process:

• Source a rear interior light from a yard
• Run a wire from rear interior light
• Make a template, trace the pattern, and cut
• Glue in light with epoxy
• Install LED panels

We should do that. I like going fast rather than crawling and don't want to beat up the body.

By the way, your recent coilovers were why I ended up looking for a set. I was talking about and showing your 4runner to the GF last week. :thumb3:
