This is how a clean bolts and small parts that can be removed that can fit in this tub. This has 10 gallons of evapo rust in it. Each gallon can absorb 1/2 a pound of rust. So this solution isn't cheap but works and it's a must have in the rust belt.

Haven't heard the boiling in water part, ol'timers would moisten part put BS on part steel wool it bout 50 yrs ago.
Glad chemical means came about, Ospho has been my go to for a while.
New tech laser rust removal is pretty cool a hand held unit be the bomb.

I feel for you guys in the snow belt, brings back unfond childhood memories of washing cars with snow on the ground
pull them in heated garage dad would dry off, if on shit list both of em, ha.
 
Making progress on the hatch. The worst spot is now being rebuilt. I am guessing this is why my driver side window track rusted away...lol

My two style of aluminum rims. The sport rims off the 01 and 02 and the standard 3 spoke split. Almost all my 4 runners have the 3 spoke split. So [MENTION=95183]octanejunkie[/MENTION] say the big 13wl and the larger rotor 231mm fit these 16 inch split spoke rims without modification?

My 16 inch split 3 spokes would not clear my 13WL calipers.
 
This is why I use the smaller diameter tundra calipers. They fit these rims. As the 231mm will not fit these rims or a stock spare. :)

The smaller 13WE Tundra caliper takes a 199.5mm pad vs the 231mm pad on the larger, 13WL referred to as a TBU

The 199.5mm pad provides the same braking surface area as the stock S13WM caliper/pad that comes on 16" wheel vehicles with 319mm rotors

There is little advantage to the smaller tundra caliper/rotor on a stock 16" 4runner with the S13WM caliper and 319mm rotor, other than the tundra rotor being thicker - the braking surface area is the same

The advantage is no more warp rotors and no spongy brake pedal. Using the same brake pads. If you go larger. You need to run different wheels and you cause brake issues soft petal etc.

The stock rotors are not wide enough to absorb the heat and when the axle hub goes out of true they warp 5x faster.

Being the towing capacity is only 5.5k pounds. Why would you even need more brake surface?

Mine has raybestos rotors with they hybrid pads and stops better then it ever did.

Granted I rebuilt the calipers before using them.

Its complete overkill to run the larger rotors and calipers.

Only exception would be off road use in Mudd and water. But that's its only my opinion.. :)

The OEM pads for 13WL and 13WE have the same physical brake pad material size. The brake pad backing plate is a different size, but the pad material itself is the same size. The main advantage to the TBU is the larger rotor which is less susceptible to warp compared to the thinner stock rotors. EDIT: It's also worth noting that 13WL and 13WE calipers have the same piston size and count, and therefore will have the same pedal feel.

The larger calipers 13WL/13WE are causing the soft pedal feel. It's Pascal's law and there is no way around it. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. My last 4Runner had stock, 13WL, and 13WE calipers. There was no change in pedal feel between 13WE and 13WL calipers to me. The current 4Runner has stock brakes and they are more than sufficient for my driving style/needs. I prefer the stock pedal feel vs the 13WL/13WE calipers. I'm hoping that doing the rear disk brake conversion won't compromise my pedal feel too much.

Making progress on my body work. The top 2 are extremely close. The bottom one needs some work yet. I need to completely done to put the window up and in the track. Then I can fix the few others with the window up.

My plan is just to use touch up paint to paint these patches. Will it match exactly no. However, it better then the rust holes and rot thst I had before plus my holes will be all sealed. Keeping my windows track from testing up. :)
