Well rolled my tailgate window down and it jumped track. My driver side track rotted out. So might as well fix and patch my tailgate rot. As it needed delt with. Step one. Remove all the scalling I can with my dremel tool.

Why thank you.. I was going to use my parts mobile track if it is any good. However, I want to use evapo rust on my rust patches but it seems that I am going to have to wait till it arrives. So I have to let you know if my spare track is any good.

Slowly making progress on my hatch. I decided to try the fiberglass with cloth over the holes. Then do the inside as well. Then filling in the dura glass body filler. As filler can't take water with this being heavy water area I see how it turns out. Can always glaze fill or plastic for a top coat. Then just touch paint on top...

Seems like a good call on the repair as should hold up well and look very presentable once completed and painted.

There are additives to add to the resin to make it more sandable.

Interesting... The fiberglass cloth is the base. Then I have dura glass body filler so I see how sandable it is. I believe it sands down very well...

Started sanding the Glass down. Driver side coming nicely. Just a lot more sanding to do. The passenger side. I may just redo. I am not sure if I got it clean enough. So I am debating just to glass it or rip it down and start over.

Unless it's clean/rust free it will just show up again in weeks and piss you off for not taking care of it the first time. My 2 cents.

Well I thought I had it clean. But my instincts are telling me I better do that side again. Granted I am going to patch the inside too. It can't come through the glass.. However, the glass can come off the steel.

Man I hear ya! I'm living in Wisconsin and moving home to where I won't have to engage in hand to hand combat with rust. You Sir deserve a medal!

Moving away from the rust belt would solve the rot issue.. I just don't see that happening for me.. As this is where I was born and raised.

Been dealing with it over 30 years. Learned a few things to help slow it down.
