Could always stop by the stealership.....

Otherwise you will probably have to bust it open which could make it worse.

Problem solved.

What it was, was the key I was using, which starts the truck and unlocks the doors does not work in the glove box.

I tried the spare key and it works.

I just bought this vehicle and it looks like the primary key is very worn and nolonger will work the glove box.

That's strange that it will start the truck but doesn't open the glove. I guess its easier to steal the truck than break into the glove. WTF

Well I just bought this vehicle monday. I came with 2 keys. 1 Toyota, and 1 they guy had made somewhere. The Toyota key is the one that works in the glove box. The other does not. You can see that it is more worn at the tip. But it still starts the truck

Do the 3rd gens only have regular keys? Cuz I know it's well over $100 to replace a 4th gen key due to the computer chip that's in each one, programmed specifically for your truck.

When I got my 4Runner I had one original key and one cheap copy. The original was worn and would barely work in the rear hatch and glove box. I had a copy of the original made and that key would not work at all in the locks. I had to take a copy of the title and my ID to the dealership and have them cut a VIN based key. Works great.

I did the same, but my dealer didnt care about ID or title, just wanted the vin... easy way to steal a car I suppose. :(
My new key cost about $5.
My rig only came with the factory valet key that opens and locks the doors and starts the car, but yes doesnt open the glove box.

.

That's a little scary considering all someone has to do is write your VIN and then go to the dealership.

My dealership will not cut a key with just a VIN. They do it for me, because they know me ( I worked there for 2 years and my dad still works there.) But for anyone else they would have to produce documentation proving that they own the vehicle. Techno may just be a regular at the dealership, otherwise they could find themselves in a lot of trouble someday.
