Broken Spark Plug, AGAIN.....

As it says,

I have now had two plugs break on me. The porcelain park is what is going to hell. I have had a Denso and a NGK do this with in the last 4 months. Thoughts other than they are now junk?

That's a sign of improper installation. Ie: Too tight, or a socket or technique which is placing too much side-load on the spark plug itself.

Not be a dick but I'm so careful when putting plugs in this thing and I just sung them and that is it( not loose but not retched the hell out of it). I'm not that guy who cranks the hell out of them. I know that if you cross thread them you F^&$ED in a big way. I get what you are saying though. I just thought they might have been dropped before I got them. Thoughts on that? I'm really at a loss at this point.

I'll post a pic.

Maybe...if your plug was dropped off of Half Dome :) you know you shouldn't drive all the way up there. And Im sure you can't even source a plug in Irbil.

j/k figured I should poke fun at your location.

Don't be a hater you didn't follow me to the top of the Mt. Not many people have figured that out.

I'm not trying to be a dick either. Just from years of working on cars for a living, then for the last 10+ years working on racing machines, I've seen and changed too many spark plugs to count.

A typical race weekend would be 64 plugs just for the 4 qualifying rounds, then another potential 64 for the elimination rounds. Potentially 128 spark plugs for one racing weekend.

Anyway, if they aren't being overtightened, then I'd consider the plug socket itself or technique as the culprit. If they have been dropped prior to installation, the fractures in the porcelain will be visible upon close inspection.

The only thing I could attribute it to is excessive heat.

Since I know you had injector troubles, is this plug for the same cylinder as the bad injector?

No signs of blistering on the porcelain, or melted electrodes. It's not showing signs of excessive heat.

See I was thinking that too but the "New" coil I had was junk. So one bad plug in cyl #4 them in Cyl #3 I had a crap coil. So I'm sure you can guess how it was running. After fixing all that, amazing it ran great. I was thinking heat but it is all stock. I ran the number on the big scanner and the injectors looked good or so it says anyhow. It is running strong now that the coil is working and cyl #4 has a good plug in it.

It pays to put one's contacts in before looking at pics on T4R. Yep, definitely not heat.

With a lack of quality control where most everything today is made in the world, it may have just been made on a Monday or Friday. If it cracks again, then it may warrant concern.

If it happens agin i would be wondering about engine knock or detonation causing the plug to crack. I had a similar issue in my wife alero spark plug on cylinder 3 kept cracking. Turned out to have a cracked head letting coolant in. Spark plugs dont like hot to cool.

No knocks, no codes being thrown at this point either. I"m just about to chalk this one up to Monday for Friday at the factory.
