BudBuilt bumper filler skid

[MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION] (Dave) and I were talking about different armors for our 5th gen 4Runners, because a lot of us love to go off-road and would not want anything bad to happen to fragile parts that are not protected such radiators and etc. We came to the realization that there are still not a lot of choices when it comes to LCA skids that fit our trucks or bumper filler skids that would go from the bumper to the front of the skid plate. Something like [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] has with TRD decal, but he made it him self.

I saw that Bud from Budbuilt made one for a FJ Cruiser, but nothing for our trucks.

I think Dave bugged him about one, but still no response. So we came up with an idea to make a poll to see how many people would like to have a bumper filler skid to protect our radiators and if enough people vote for it, we can forward this information to Bud, so he can make the bumper filler skids faster and we can enjoy trips off-road without worrying about damaging something.

Any reason not to make it one piece and cover the orginal skids too. More of a factory replacement that would replace the factory skid also all as one piece.

Could be the thinking is that a lot of us who would want that filler plate go the steel bumper route, which provides that protection. It's a good idea though, and if I didn't have a bumper or wasn't planning on getting one I'd probably be interested.

Sooner or later I will be going with a set of BudBuilt Skids with my stock bumper cover, and a fill plate would be a welcome addition.

Spoke to Bud's assistance today, he is aware of a poll and our requests. He is working on it, to see what he will do. Sorry don't have much more, but hopefully we will find out something soon.

Would this filler only be compatible with Bud Built skids?

Bud I'm sure knows he will have to make different ones for the SR5/LE ,KDSS TE and the non KDSS TE's/Canadian SR5's as they will all fit different. That of course all goes out the window combining with aftermarket bumpers and those different model differences.

Mine was fabbed more for aerodynamics and protection from road debris and gravel kicking up into the ac condenser and radiator rather then a skid plate. I made it out of .063" 7075 T6 aluminum and made a couple of spares as I didn't think it would last as long as it has . Has some rock dings and road rash but serves it's purpose.

IMO,If your hitting big rocks that high up in the front to need a functionable skid there you really should have chose another line as your tires need to go over the biggest rocks. On ledges it's far enough back that the front wheels pick you up over the ledge before you hit there.If your hitting way up there then it is doubtful your going to drag your truck over that big of a rock being the the rest of the bottom is a good 6-8 inches lower anyways.Back up and pick a better line.

Just received my 5 piece, waiting on a bracket & rear diff skid. I am really hoping I can do a great job on a write up of the install for a TE. Help on the web seems a little lacking for the install.

Did you get the instructions from Bud? They aren't the greatest, but I didn't have any experience with this sort of thing and got them all installed on my own. If you're doing it by yourself a floor jack will really help. Pretty sure I found some great pointers on here from [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] that helped.

Update

Spoke with Bud's assistant today and she said they are getting a 5th gen in two weeks and Bud is going to be able to work on the "Bumper Filler Skid". I hope it is true, I guess we will see.
