Bug Deflector

Have had mine since purchased new.
There are small pits in the plastic from debree, rocks, etc.

It will definitely save your hood or windshield.
I have been using hood deflectors on my past Tacomas.

Once it wears out, will replace it with a new one.

Has anyone had an issue where the deflector prevented the hood from closing??? My 2015 TE doesn't have the clearance for a Weather Tech deflector.....

Yeah, my AVS deflector makes it a bit hard to close the hood, I have to drop it from about 12 inches up to get it to lock. If I close it and try to push it closed, I'll end up with a huge dent in the hood!

Its the screw heads touching the plastic shroud in the closed position. I haven't decided what I want to do just yet, I may either grind the heads of the screws down, or put a relief hole where each head is touching the shroud. Its just barely touching it right now, as I can just see a slight rubbing of the 2 outermost screws in the shroud, so I'm not too worried about it just yet. I rarely open the hood, so it hasn't been a major issue.

Interesting. Well, I just got off the phone with Weathertech(very friendly customer support, BTW) and am going to send them pics tonight. Hopefully, I'll get a resolution. I also mentioned that mine is a TEP vice an SR5, limited or PRO. Not sure if that matters but who knows at this point.

I suggest inspecting a mounted Toyota deflector to see if the OEM mounting hardware might solve your issue. I removed my deflector shortly after purchasing the vehicle, but had absolutely no issues with closing the hood while the deflector was mounted.

Here is my AVS Aeroskin on my black TRD PRO, Sorry its not silver but you get the idea. This is stuck with 3M double side tape.

Does anyone notice if they seem to make a difference as far as bugs, and perhaps rock chips on the hood as well?

A small piece of plastic mounted to the hood can't create enough of a slipstream to deflect anything.

Most are pretty good at trapping a small bead of salty water along the inner lip of your hood and starting all manner of nasty corrosion.

This is why I use "bug" deflectors. Granted this is 10 years worth of daily driving, but my vehicles that have the deflectors don't have this kind of damage. Wifey wouldn't allow me to put one on her Camry.

I received and installed the AVS shield today. I like the looks. Very sturdy too. Oh, and I peeled off the sticker on the right, after I took the pic.

I have the AVS on my 2008. It was a Lille difficult to install as I had to take off the grill. I only wish it came down a little more by the chrome on the grill and wish it didn't lay so far back maybe 1/2 inch taller but overall I'm happy with it. Not bad for $50 on eBay

I wish I had seen this thread a few days ago!!

I just received my Weathertech bug shield and called customer service to ask why my receipt says 2015 4runner and the tag on the bug shield says 2010-2013 4runner.. The response, please send that back as we no longer offer this product for this model year, made by someone else, and have pulled it from our website.

Wonderful.

Yup. I am still waiting on the return shipping label for mine. I have not decide on which deflector I want to get now. ....

I was finally able to send back the weathertech and I recorded my OEM bug gauge and installed it. Took about 20 minutes. Fits perfectly. uploadfromtaptalk1437845147251.jpg
