Bug Deflector

so i purchased the avs bug deflector ii #25053 on amazon last week and tried installing it. everything mounted up just fine but couldnt get the hood to close. so i was thinking maybe i got a defective one. returned it and reordered.. got my other one in last night and the holes seems to be slight off but was able to install it anyways but still.. couldnt close the hood!! tried pushing down on the hood where the latch is with some force, adjusting the rubber stops and still nothing. the gap before the hood and top of the grill is so small that im thinking no way this could fit. plus, with the deflector on, its gonna have major rubbing issues. i dont know get how so many of you guys are installing them with the hood closing just fine?? i mean, its pretty straight forward.
 
This thread started way back when Weathertech, AVS, and OEM were the contenders. Looking for one for my 2017 LE.

I have used AVS products a lot over the years without problems, and was ready to get one of the Bug Deflectors, but we are seeing problems on the recent posts on newer trucks.

Not sure if Weathertech still makes them. Anyone have a Weathertech on a 2017? And are they the same piece as the AVS? Seems AVS customers were getting Weathertech catalogs, etc. Might be the exact same item (with same problems) labeled differently.

Is OEM the only player now?

I have an AVS on my 2016, never had any issues...
 
I just got my Auto Ventshade 23071 Smoke Bugflector from amazon. Took less than 10 minutes to install. Hood closes with no issues. Does not touch hood. More low profile than the Bugflector 2. Love it!

I installed the avs on my 2017 sr5 about a month ago. There were 0 issues, and it installed in like 5 min. I went avs over oem because I was concerned about the metal clips touching the paint. This one seems like it could be taken off in 5 years without scratching or rusting. I think it was like 50 or 60 bucks on walmart’s Website through third party, and free shipping.
 
So i just took the OEM bug deflector off my 2017 for the first time to clean under the metal brackets. of course, its beginning to damage the hood. Before it gets bad, id like to replace the clear strips it comes with for something more durable.
Was wondering what you guys are using that works? thanks.

I got one from a company called Form Fit. My dealership started carrying them and they gave me one at cost to try on. A customer saw it while installing and purchased one on the spot. Picture is on his car as mine was filthy

This is still an issue with this shield. It happened to my 2021 SR5 and it was rubbing after the install on my 2023. Took it off and ordered the OEM version. Planning on using clear door edge guards to stop the metal brackets from doing any damage to the hood. Another post mentioned this and said the shield is much more solid mounted this way compared to the thin clear protective strips.
