Bug deflector?

What's everyone's thoughts on bug deflectors for our T4R's? I've always had one but I don't want to take away from the look of the 4 runner...but it seems like the windshield is a flat wall for catching bugs on the highway without one. I already have the clear paint defender on the hood/fenders though. So who's got one and has pictures and what's everyone's thoughts?

Still, no one has pics? I would still like to see some, mainly the OEM since that's what I'm going with.

It won't help any with bugs to the windshield. It's too upright. The current crop of shields is shaped to the hood line without any real lip to force air up. I use mine more to reduce paint damage from the small debris that gets thrown up on highways. My wife's 05 Camry hood looks like a kid has been going at it with a bb gun for 10 years.....

I was against the idea of a deflector at first, but when I had 2 windshield chips in the first week off the lot I knew I had to do something. I went with the AVS and I'm very happy with it. Not a single chip in the 11 months since I installed it. The look has grown on me too, I actually like it better than without.

I definitely like the AVS and might go with it. Ours is the magnetic grey as well and I think that looks good. We already have the Toyota Cear Guard on the hood, fenders, doors and few other places. But the bugs are killer and yup 2 weeks of ownership and we got our rock chips in the window as well[emoji35]

It's probably just a coincidence that you've not had a chip since you installed the deflector. I don't think whatever minimal air turbulence it creates is enough to deflect rocks. It likely just produces some swirling air right over the top of it, not an impenetrable slipstream of air.

Agreed. I got 6 rock chips in the first 6 months of ownership. None in the last 2 years, and my deflector was in place before any chips.

That's 'cause you were living over here in the oil patch and getting blasted by pump trucks, vacuum trucks, water tankers, parts trucks, regular old work trucks and ranch trucks on roads torn all to hell by the aforementioned trucks!
