Bug shield for 5th Gen

Hi, Would anyone have pictures of the AVS bug shield installed on their 5th gen? I was also wondering if those with the OEM shield like it? Any opinions on one versus the other?

Thank you!

(I searched for Bug shields in the 5th gen section and didn't find much that helped.)

Here's a picture of the low-profile AVS shield on my truck.

AVS Bug shield

I purchased an AVS bug shield late last year. I personally did not like it. I called to get a return authorization number and the people at Auto Anything must not think much of it either. They said to just throw it out and they would issue me a credit. Which they did! I personally think the OEM one mounts better and from what I hear from other people the AVS has some problem with closing their hoods and it is a tight fight on the corner. No problem with the OEM one.

I like my AVS bugshield. Yeah, the hood closes a bit tight, but it's very solid (no chance of it touching the hood at all, from what I can see). And it looks nice. But this is my first bug shield I've ever had, on any car, so what do I know?

I have the OEM bug shield. Thus far I have been very pleased with it. I can tell you, with certainty, that it definitely helps to minimize the chance of chips occurring on the front of the hood.

Thanks folks! I didn't know there was a low profile version! Reviews on the AVS are mixed - some really like it and some don't and it seems to be the same with the OEM. I was polishing the truck yesterday and noticed the first little chip in the paint so time to get one of these things.

Same here, I think the AVS fits just fine, was easy to install was fairly cheap and looks OK too. Whether it does any good or not, who knows, I still get a lot of bugs.

I have never had one before either, so I don't really know what I should have expected. My hood closes fine.

Thanks, I think I'll try the AVS, I don't like that you can see those rubber pads through the plastic that are dotted across the OEM version. The AVS looks a little cleaner in the pics I've seen.

Get the original Toyota. unless money are tight. I love mine and there are plenty of bugs in my part of the woods this time of the year. It fits nice, easy to install and does a job.
