Build Thread: 2004 SR5 4WD V8 "Ron"

I still need to sell my 2005 Sport Edition 2WD V6, but I found exactly what I've been looking for and brought my second 4Runner home today. It's a 2004 SR5 4WD V8 in Natural White. Bear with me as this may not be the most intricate build, but being my second build I want to document this one and be able to take advice from the helpful members here. First mod (which happened minutes after getting home) was swapping the wheels and tires for the TRD Pros with 265/70/17 BFG KO2's. Broke a lug nut stud taking off the last wheel but I'll deal with that tomorrow.

Congrats on the purchase/project! I have the same model, only in black. Are you stock height? If so, how do the tires clear? I’m looking to possibly run that size in the K02s when I get new rims soon. If you wouldn’t mind, could you measure the hub center to wheelwell heights front and rear? Do you know if those wheels have the same offset and backspace as our stock rims? I’m hoping to add a bit of negative offset to my next rims to bring the wheels out a bit without spacers, but don’t want a bunch of rubbing headaches, especially with the larger rubber.

Thanks! I am at stock height for now and you will experience some rubbing when turning sharply. I’ll eventually be lifting a few inches but in the meantime it doesn’t bother me. As far as the offset goes these wheels do have less offset than stock (I believe 4mm vs 15mm) and the stance is really nice. In my opinion spacers are unnecessary for this wheel. Will measure heights and PM you.

Me too! My last one was all black IMO you can’t go wrong with black, white, or dark gray. I’m at 80k. Are you going to get the one you’re looking at?

Thanks so much for remembering the measurements, and the additional info! Because mine has the yellow Bilsteins and unknown springs, it is not stock height so I needed a baseline of what stock height actually is for my model since most components are advertised as lift amounts from stock. From your measurements, it appears that my springs have the front about 2” higher than stock, but the rear must be stock springs as they are lower than yours because of all the tools I carry by about 1 1/4”. I guess this is good news because I don’t really need to lift the front at all to clear a decent sized tire, and can just do rear springs/shocks for now.:tea:

Yesterday I mounted this Kicker compact sub under my driver seat, but I wasn't a fan of the massage chair feeling. So this morning I moved it to the cargo area. It fits snugly on it's side between the floor and the tray if you have that option. Wired the remote bass control up to the front and put it on the fuse box cover. Much happier with this install. Also replaced the stereo with an Alpine INE-S920HD. It's such a great head unit. I can post pictures if you haven't seen it before.

Thanks! I've never had or considered white but it looks pretty mean with the blackout. I just hit 81k but might actually be selling. Too bad you're not in CA.
