Building, Driving and Adventuring the MTN4RNR

Took apart the cargo area to start taking some measurements for building a rear tie-down platform. Gotta see what's underneath before I start drawing!

Let's see where this goes...

Very curious is a write up for this! Would love the extra storage space without losing height so I can carry bikes in the back still.

MTN4RNR What's the correct fuel line to get?
I k,ow you went with 3/8 and have seen others gone with 5/16 and I believe as small as 1/4".

I used a 3/8" transmission cooler line. It fits the Toyota rear axle union. But it's looser on the Toyota 2 way breather. With the hose clamp I was able to tighten the hose on the breather enough to seal. I think that either 3/8" or 5/16" will work, but I cannot confirm the 1/4" from my experience. I would think it would work as well. Might be tighter on the union. Best guess would be to get both the union and the breather and take it to your closest auto parts store to size it yourself.

I am hoping to make head way on this in the coming weeks. I need to get some fabrication quotes and source parts. Stay tuned!

Just went through the thread man looking good so far. Subscribed! Looking forward to following a local build.

Thanks! It has been very fun so far, and I am sure it will only get better from here on out! Trying to do some cheaper mod's now so I can save for some of the non-budget friendly items.

Great build! Looking forward to updates, and might steal some ideas!

Steal away. I put things up here to add to the wealth of information on this site. I have learned from others and I hope I can help pass along as much information as I can along the way! :bravo:

Great build thread so far. Excellent detail. Thanks for that.

Quick Question, are your HID headlights the Philips 4300K, they seem closer to 5000k based off the pictures but I dont see the Philips bulb's listed with any option other then 4300k?

Lastly, what bulb type are the fog lights?

Thanks in advance.

They are the 4300k Philips bulbs, but according to XenonDepot, after the bulbs break in, they will end up being closer to 5000k.

All of the info on my fog bulbs can be found here.

Good luck!

The Philips 4300K HID bulbs color shift to 4700K after about 100 hours of usage.

MTN4RNR did you forgo using the supplied relays all together for your install? my knowledge of lighting and electrical is shaky at best, but it looks like you can just install the bulb and ballast and be good to go? provided you don't have to switch polarity

I did not use the supplied relays, as the startup power to the HID's is similar to the standard headlights that the 4Runner uses, according to Xenon Depot. I also did not need to reverse the polarity either. It should be plug and play, very simple and straight forward. Let me know if you have questions!

Good luck!

thanks for the response, i finished the install today and your thread helped a lot. i found that my driver side powered on without the relay attached, but i could not get the passenger side to fire without the relay (tried switching polarity first too). so in the end i used both relays just for uniformity i guess. happy with the results, need to check aim and see how it looks at night (4300K Phillips bulbs) so just waiting for it to get dark

Strange that one side would power up, and the other wouldn't. Regardless, glad that you were able to make it work! The night time driving experience is completely different with the HID's. I actually look forward to night driving now, ha! Your aim should not need any adjustment is it was just a bulb replacement.
