Bump stops or overland springs? Or both?

I'm working on upgrading my suspension on T4R w/KDSS. I'm going with Icon stage 4 but I can't decide if I need overland spring upgrade or bumpstops... perhaps both. Any thoughts or experience here? Would both be overkill and or a waist of money?

Need a lot more information.

What are you planning to do with the 4R? How much weight are you putting the back? Is the weight always going to be there (as in a heavy bumper, etc) or just sometimes?

Why are you changing suspension? High speed desert? Rock crawling? Adding 1500 lbs to the 4Runner? Those are reasons to change suspension. If you are not doing any of these things then you don't need anything.

I do have my eye on the Expedition One rear dual swing bumper as my next mod after suspension. Then Expedition One Trail Series Front Bumper with winch as final mod... I go crawling when I have time and attend events like FJ Summit too. This is my everyday driver as well

I already have added Gobi Stealth rack and light bar and will be towing 16" Airstream to most of my adventures if that matters.... may also carry 2-300 lbs of gear in cargo area only on events not daily though.

Stock bumpers for me but I roll with a RTT, Awning, cooler and bike rack for a good portion of the warm months.

I had overland springs and bumpstops, first trip I took with this setup I noticed the rear sagging pretty bad. So I ended up with Airlift bags in the back as well to keep from riding on the bumpstops when the road got rough.

I've really liked this setup, just changing airbag pressure when I have more or less load lets me be comfortable all the time.

Attached 2 pictures. One is the first trip with the noticeable rear sag. The other is after adding only airbags to the setup.

If you plan on having weight back there most of the time, go for the Overland springs. Just keep in mind for the times you don't have the rear loaded or before the bumper comes on you'll have a pretty rough rear ride and 3" lift in the back. Not to mention that without weight you are limiting your downtravel because of the added lift. Without my RTT and drawers (just my rear bumper), I have a pretty serious rake front/rear.

The Icon hydro bumps are nice to have if you can spend the money. But there isn't anything with them that most people couldn't live without. Wheelers Superbumps or Timbren Active Off Road bumpstops work just as well.

Hum that is interesting. I have these springs coming to support my CBI bumper en route. Hope its not too bad, maybe its just an excuse to do GooseGears soon after if its stinkbugging too bad.

If you get the overlands you won't need/ won't really engage much of the airbumps

If you get airbumps they'd do well helping ease bottom out action on lesser coils with heavy loads

I got both with the SSO rear bumper and haven't looked back since..

P.S. Overland coils + heavy rear bumper you'd do much better spending the airbump $$$ on a good set of rear shocks to avoid all the 'bounciness' back there

Really helpful insight guys. I appreciate all the feedback so far. I think I'm going to go with overland springs for now to save cash and add the bumpstops later if needed. That makes the most sense especially since the bumpstops are over $600.
