Bumper Opinions 4x Innovation vs. Shrockworks

I’ve been looking for a winch bumper for about a month or so now and I have done a lot of research; however I’m conflicted about which bumper to purchase. I am looking for a solid plate bumper without a stinger and I’ve finally narrowed the search down to two. I am weighing the pros and cons of both and hopefully I can get some assistance here to make my decision easier. The two I have chosen are 4x innovation and Shrockworks.

4x Innovation

Pros – The price is great at $696 plus shipping and it is the best looking bumper in my opinion.

Cons – I’ve heard the customer service could use some work, but I’ve had limited interaction and my experienced has been satisfactory so far. So moving on, the greatest down side to this bumper would be the lack of an option for a body lift bracket (I have a 1’ BL)*. Next, I have read about a common problem with the factory mounts not all lining up with the bumper properly. This could cause some serious obstacles and additional unwanted headaches. Lastly, the winch access points look like they might not be the most functional, but this is only an observation and I could easily be wrong.

*I could always get the BL bracket fabricated but I have not searched this option and don’t know what the cost would run.


Shrockworks

Pros – A lot of people are running this setup and it has a lot of positive reviews. The bumper is known to be durable, functional and constructed with great craftsmanship.

Cons – To be fair about customer service I will say from the threads I have looked at the customer service here sounds good, but several people have claim they can be wishy washy about their shipping dates. This brings me to my next point about this bumper…a 3 month lead time, what?!?! Is normal for all bumpers or is it a unique problem? Lastly, while not totally off-putting, the cost is significantly more. For the options I have selected I am priced out at approximately $1100 before shipping is applied.

So what do you think?

In terms of looks, they look about the same to me. Both look pretty darn good. I would go with the 4x bumper. I think the $400 savings would be well worth drilling a few holes or welding up a bracket to make everything work with your BL.

I'd grab the 4xI only because it's cheaper and it looks pretty similar. Like white and slow said, lose the BL and weld up some brackets. Easy Peasy

I'm running the OL bumper because of the looks and the price were great plus the service was excellent;
but if i were you, between those 2 choices there's no doubt I'd go with the Shrockworks.

I can't comment on the 4xInnovations, I have never seen one in person. As far as my Shrockworks goes, the cost and the wait were worth it to me. I've also got a 1" BL and they sent me 1" larger brackets. It's sturdy and functional... can't wait to put a winch in it.

I waited 4 months and they gave me an additional 10% off my purchase price for waiting.

-Because he was rude and short during the purchase process and when I would call to check on the progress.

-When I got the bumper it was shipped as just the bare steel. I knew it wasnt gonna be painted, but he didnt even wrap it in anything, just stuck the shipping label on the bumper.

-When I went to mount it, 4 holes didnt align.

-He never responded to multiple emails about the bolt holes.

due to all that, I dont care to give him the chance to make it right. His business ethics suck, his product is defective and his customer service sucks.

I dont know much about these bumpers.
But I personally am a fan of the looks of the ARB bumper, dont know how it stacks up in terms of functionality but the air bag testing is a big plus.

I am not sure if you saw the thread (here and on MUD) of the 4runner that rear ended the land cruiser. The 4runner had a 4x bumper and several people commented in those threads of it having sub par strength. There were mixed comments on one side the lack of strength and on the other the positive side of it allowing the crumple zones to do their job and take the impact. Hope this helps, and hope you will be happy and safe with which ever you end up buying.

I was against the BL at first but it has resolved the issue of rubbing so I don't see this as an option with 285/75/R16.

Seriously. If that was an ARB option, I probably would have one.

What about an ODL bumper? They're pretty similar to both the 4x and teh Shrockworks.

My vote goes to shrockworks. Just order the thing and forget about it. One day it'll magically show up on your doorstep looking sexy as hell!

Ive heard a couple of shout outs for ODL on this thread, but I had a couple fitment issues and looking at the way its "secured" to the frame I wouldnt want to winch with it. That being said the customer service was great. If I had to do it again I would cough up some extra money and go with shrockworks.
