Burnt smell

I just got my 30,000 mile service before taking a long trip. I first noticed a kind of burnt smell at the back of my 4R when getting gas about 4 hours into my trip. I hadn't noticed it again until yesterday when I was going up and down some steep hills.

Is this normal? Thoughts?

Maybe some extraneous drive train lubricant found its way to the exhaust system?
