Buying a 4runner, but want to add the '06 nav... What stereo should I look for?

I'm in the market for a 03-05 4Runner with V6 and can't find one with NAV, so I'm looking to figure out which stereo I should buy so I can easily upgrade to the '06 NAV unit ...or get the '03-'05 NAV unit if necessary.

I like the bluetooth and MP3 options in the '06 unit.

Any Ideas?

single disc JBL HU

You need to buy one with single disc JBL HU. The NAV needs external amp, which is the JBL AMP, and the AC controll unit and radio bezel are the same on single disc and NAV, if you buy one with CD-Changer ,than, to get the factory look you will need to change both AC_Control unit and the center/Radio bezel.

Or get the non-JBL unit, and use the money you save towards the nav unit from the Camry which will fit...or get one of the Eclipse nav systems (like the AVN5500). I just installed that one in my car today! I love it so far. They are made by the same company that makes them for Toyota (Fujitsu Ten) so all the connectors fit right in.

AVN5500 vs OEM Toyota Nav

Does the Eclipse AVN5500 allow you to have voice navigation like the standard 4Runner nav? I am looking for an after market nav. I don't care about dvd etc, all I care about is GPS navigation.

Also, where does the GPS antenna go for the Nav? I don't see any GPS antenna for the toyota Navs. Do they hide them some place?

The 5500 doesn't do voice nav as far as I know. In order to do voice with the Toyota nav, I belive you'll also need to purchase the Toyota mic, the steering wheel buttons for the right side, and a ribbon cable connecting the right side buttons to the left side. Not sure how difficult this is to install.

Considering that the Toyota nav is $2,000 not including the mic, buttons, and cable (an extra few hundred $), and it doesn't do mp3 CD's or DVD videos, I thought the voice wasn't worth it for an extra $1K.

The GPS antenna (if you have nav factory installed) sits in a bracket behind the radio, between the air conditioning ducs. I put the antenna for the Eclipse in the same area, actually on the grounding plate on top of the duct on the left side. It's hard to describe, but if you have the radio out and have a look back there, you'll know exactly where I mean.
