buying a 4runner

I'm new to the site and am in search of a 4runner. Anything I should look out for while looking at them? All of the ones I see are high on mileage. I'm assuming this are very reliable vehicle.

I've been around cars my whole life so moving onto an suv has left me a bit dumbfounded. All input is appreciated.

Oh yeah. I am looking at the 2nd generations.

I would wait untill you find one you like then post the details(miles/V6 or 4CYL/auto or man..etc..) then it would easier to tell you if the price is right and some things to look for.

I have found one that I like. It is a 94 v6 4x4, a/t, sunroof with 170k miles. He is asking $3000 for it. It's very clean. Seems to run well. No rust. There is a small dent in the hatch and I believe in the rear bumper.

I posted ahead to see incase there are things I need to look out for before buying one. Like I know that with the cars I deal with there are several things we need to know about from recalls to failures and such. I'm just not too familiar with a 4runner and I am selling one of my cars to get something more reliable.

Looks nice, good price too.
Ask what has been done/fixed/changed with 170K on it.

The biggest problem was the recall for the head gaskets you can get the VIN and take to Toyota to see if this has been done.
Most have but I would still check.

Other then that the engine is bullet proof many see over 200K easy if well taken care of.

Not the most powerful 155/180 HP/ TQ
Not the best MPG look for 14-16 MPG

The good news is very tough reliable truck.

Yes, I checked the mpg out before deciding on what to look into. It'll average out to about the same cost with my cars. Which is doable. Thanks for the input. As soon as I get my GS-t sold them I am going to jump on it.

$3000 seems really cheap. so if it is a stout vehicle i say go for it.
