Buying new Trail

Looking at a new Trail edition. Is there much wiggle room? Usaa car buying service suggests around 35.7k for how I want it equipped. Thanks for any advice? Maybe I should wait until closer to end of year?

Also is KDSS worth it if I plan to keep suspension stock? Better ride?

Thanks

I bought my TE with USAA pricing and it's probably as good as you'll get. Mine ended up being more just because I wanted it quickly and the optioned up versions were around, but they still honored the USAA price matrix.

Whether or not KDSS is even available is apparently dependent on where you live (unless you want to order from an out of region dealer or whatever). FWIW, the KDSS holds value, and does appear to improve on road handling as well as some of the off road niftiness that comes with it. There's a bit more nosedive on braking I believe, but that's minimal and gets rectified quickly once you start modding.

Thanks for the quick response. First time purchasing from Toyota.. Always owned Hondas and they would typically deal around the end of the year. I hear Toyota dealers don't budge much. I guess if I get a fair trade it would be worth it if I can hold to usaa pricing.

In my area, most Toyotas were about 4-5k off MSRP around this time. I'm not sure if the 4Runner was included on that list. The main thing I've looked at is how a particular model is selling. With 4Runners it seems to be dependent on the area.

We paid 38k out the door for a '15 Trail w/KDSS. Includes CA sales tax. Not a crazy discount but the dealership open up the books for us and showed us previously sold Trails, a binder full of what discounts they offer, etc....

I suggest you drive both, a KDSS and non-KDSS equipped and see what you think for yourself. I was all excited and had to have KDSS on my 2012. But I also wanted my truck lifted. And I have to say I not happy with KDSS and a lift. I don't like the way the front sway bar is attached to the lower control arms, it is a poor design on the 4Runner. They do a much better job on the Lexus.

Anyway, I sold the 2012 with KDSS and bought two 2015s and either have KDSS and I don't even miss it a bit.

I paid about 38,500 out the door for a Trail with KDSS in Los Angeles on a weekend when there were very few Trails available.

Good info so far! I received a price quote from one dealer that seemed pretty fair..36,200. This is just off their first email.. I'm sure I can bring it down with military discount the dealers are offering ($500). Problem is the dealer is pretty far away. I plan to take this quote to the local dealers and see if they will at least match it.

I am also a usaa member but have no experience with their car buying service. It seems like over the long run it could make a difference if the price is close enough and then you finance it through them with the APR discounts for doing so. you could save yourself the price difference, or more, simply on paying less interest. I'd suggest looking at the total cost of the vehicle over the course of the loan vice the sale price. (this doesn't apply if you're paying cash of course)

dealers deal year round, just search for them online... on the eastside Koons Toyota has the best advertised deals that I know of... their wow price is the price you pay if you want the car. (plus ttl and destination of course)

Does your name indicate you live in Colorado? If so, you are in a sellers market when it comes to Trail Editions. I bought mine from Auto Nation and they will be honest with you when they tell you most are sold before they even get off the truck.

If you have found one for $36K its probably pretty stripped down. My 2015 has every option you can get on a Trail and it was stickered at about $40K.

What you will find with any front range dealer is they won't negotiate much on Trails - they don't have to. ;-)

I just picked one up a few weeks ago. TE with KDSS and the Entune Premium Audio. Out the Door AFTER tax-tag-title was $38,200. There was no more room to wiggle. They are selling TE with KDSS here as soon as they hit the ground. I was actually after a different one (with running boards and chrome exhaust) and it lasted a whole 3 days on the lot. Get em while they're hot.

I bought mine before it was off the truck, I happened to come up on it while out of state for business (I am from Florida, was in DC), and saw the advertisement, went to the dealer and it was not there, still at the port, so I bought it anyway, was delivered three days later.
