cabin air filter

Stopped by my local garage last Sat. They just finished service on a Camry where the owner complained of an odor in the car. Camry had about 180k on it with the original cabin filter. Filter had mold growing on it. Sure that had to be healthy!

bringing it back.

i dont know why but i decided to search this today. and i realized ive never checked mine. and its been 70,000 miles that ive owned it. so i just went to my ride and checked it, sure enough. leave, dead bugs, and a black filter.

called O'Reilly Autoparts just now. and they have our filters for $7.99. the cheapest i could find. and the bonus is they have it in stock. 3 of them. SCORE! i know where i am going after work.

does spraying fragrance on it actually do anything? and how long does it last? and is it worth it?

Dont spray it... Example: Adidas cologne has nice musky-sweet smell in the morning when fresh but by 6pm it smells like old socks; immagine what it breaks down into a month later.

cabin filter

Last month when I checked mine, I noticed that it was still in decent shape. All I did was sprinkle some baking soda on it, shake the excess, and reinstall.

I did read this thread .... The only reason, I asked again is because,I was not sure if my 4rrunner had one... you may ask why.... my aswer would be. I called the autoparts store .. and they told me , my car did not have one... i will try to look for it thaks for you help...

walmart has a incabin air filter for 22-23 bucks. I was going to pick one up, but think I'll wait a few more months. It seemed better constructed than the accordion/shade style one.

After getting concerned that my A/C wasn't cooling well, I happened to remember the cabin filter later, well it was clogged up very badly. I removed and carefully vaccuumed it out well, almost like brand new. Now my A/C is like 2x cold ! Whooo!

So does that mean its always pulling outside air thru the A/C coils? Unless the recirc button is on? Or is there a mix going on?

If you have an O'Reillys nearby, they have them for 7.99.

There is constant air hitting the filter. I checked by driving around the block with no filter in and the glove box open. The faster you go the more air I felt coming through even with the fan off. So air is constantly hitting that filter.

I sure am glad I found this thread. I had my 2006 T4R Sport at the dealer yesterday for an oil change. They suggested that I change my cabin air filter too while I was in. I asked how much that would be and the response was "$60.00 !!! I told them no thanks.

What a rip off !! This is literally a 3 minute job. Even if the only tool you ever touched in your entire life was a screwdriver, you could still change this filter in under 5 minutes.

I recently got an advertisement in the mail from a local toyota dealer for their spring special and they advertised a cabin air filter replacement for $42! What a ripoff. That's why with the help of this forum and the members I've been doing all my own maintenance, to know it's done right and with care plus I save money too.

I took my glove box off and looked for the filter and I couldn't find it. I called Toyota and they said my model doesn't have one. Mine is a 2001. I suppose they wouldn't lie....

i have a 2002 4runner. everything ive seen is for 2003 and up. before i start taking things apart, stupid question, do i have one?
