Cabin Noise - LTD vs Trail?

In my year there was extra insulation under the hood so it may be a little better elsewhere. Honestly with Duratracs it's not so quiet anymore. I personally would not let cabin noise deter you and you could easily pay a car stereo shop to insulate the interior of a Trail, or do it yourself as documented around here.

considering they're identically made, you won't experience any difference outside of the tires used. being that toyota loads the Trail's with shitty street tires the same they do with the Limited, id expect the noise level to be the same on both of them. you might experience slightly less in the rear of the cabin on the Limited due to the 3rd row seats, but you might also experience more NVH because of the low profile tires.

I have driven Trail, SR5 and LE and can notice no difference between the three.
To be honest I think the 4Runner is pretty quiet inside compared to some vehicles I have owned.
I didn't use a decibel meter but my ears are pretty in tune considering all the Led Zeppelin I listened to in my life. ;-)

The front end of the limited is different. I think it has an air dam and all that stuff designed to decrease wind resistance. That COULD have an impact... maybe.
That said, I have a trail with AT tires and have been very pleased with the cabin noise (or lack thereof).

Pure snow/mud tires are notorious for road noise even if a softer compound. Traction comes with a cost. It's the wider tread groove.
Do you hardcore off-road or mild use?
If mild or rarely, look at Michelin LTX M/S. I've owned several sets of the LTX on various 4WD vehicles and they are as quiet as you are going to get. Plus, they last forever.
If thats not good enough for you, start taking interior panels off and putting in sound damper. Lots of work.

You'll be better off having a good stereo shop install soundproofing on your truck. I've ridden in a couple LE on top of my own and SR5's and didn't really notice a difference outside of what would be attributed to tires.
My 2015 TP is quieter on the road than my wife's 2012 Expedition Limited. I find the vehicle very quiet for the size and type.

Now if they can come up with an app that will clean the toilets and mow the lawn, I'll be happy.
In some cases that may be true but there was a noticeable improvement to my ears when I took off the stock tires and put on Blizzaks.

When I was shopping for mine, the dealer only had a 2016 Limited in stock. I test drove it three times. He then ordered my 2016 TE (which I wanted all along) and I test drove both it and the Limited back to back. I didn't notice any noise difference between the two. My hearing is just fine too, although my wife will tell you different.

I guess doing the cabin noise reduction mod is my best course of action unless the GX460 is already very quiet.

Just traded a 12 Limited for a 16 TEP and it does seem quieter (both versions had/have stock street tires). But I am almost positive that the majority of the difference is due to the fact that the Limited had window deflectors and the new TE doesn't (yet): in the Limited, it always sounded like the windows weren't completely closed (they were).
