Cable routing through firewall

Ok so I am in the process of installing the CB radio and got the antennae installed pretty easily.

Now I am asking all of you wiring gurus on where I should put the coax and power cables through the firewall. I don't see any that are blatantly obvious, so any suggestions will help.

Hi there,

if I understand correctly, you are looking for a good place to route your coax for your cb through the firewall.

Not sure how big the coax is, but if you look at the photos of the audio build thread in my signature, there is a good pic showing where I routed my nr 4 power wire through the firewall, the power wire is blue.

There's really only 2 places unless you drill your own holes. There are
rubber grommets about 2 inches in diameter on each side of the firewall that go through.

Just follow the hood release cable on the drivers side to see that one and there's a matching one on the pass. side that's harder to get to from the inside.I have all of my wires and cables going through them two.

Awesome, any tricks to fishing the cable through. Those grommets seem to be a good spot and seem to have enough give to get the coax and connector through.

I know Gary's got a cool trick he posted before, but I ran my cables the old school way with a piece of wire fish tape.

Here's some nice pics of the grommet and the way I routed the cable through for my amp. Your coax should be similar size! Hope this helps...

Hoping you would chime in Gary. I bet you got some tricks to getting the cable through Thinking about going through the passenger side. That way I have less excess cable to worry about.

The pass. side is a beeatch to get access inside but doable. I ran my Bajadesigns LED and rocklight harnesses thru that side.

I use a really stiff wire,like the kind you ground your house or satellite dish with that I used over the years.I poke that thru the rubber grommet and tape and use electrical tape to secure whatever I'm pulling through.If it's big like your connector you may have to cut a little x with an exacto in the rubber so it can pull through.

For smaller wires I use a empty old school bic pen casing that I punch thru the rubber and then feed the wire thru it and pull it out from the other side.

I did what Harper did and used stiff wire to either pull through or open up the rubber enough to reduce snags when I fish the wire through. Pretty easy after you do it once. Grease also helps.

Plenty of pictures in my build thread if you look in the auxiliary fuse box, roof light and CB threads. Link is below in my signature. I use some yard metal wire and insulation tape to pull my cable trunks.
