Yes, once you disconnect the brake line. If you are putting in new pads you will have to compress the piston to make room. I would do it anyways, less risk of getting paint on it.

So quick question. I only painted the drum and and whay looks like part of the caliper. Is the circled part supposed to be painted as well?or you can leave the boots on. spread some of the grease from inside the boot, all over the outside of them so the paint won't stick....it'll wipe right off after and protect the boot.
