Yes, once you disconnect the brake line. If you are putting in new pads you will have to compress the piston to make room. I would do it anyways, less risk of getting paint on it.

here's where I'm at. I don't want to remove the brake line because I don't want to bleed them. My thinking was to remove caliper to ease the paint process. Can brake line simply be moved?

And what about these black rubber gaskets that protect the bolts ? Just slip them back on?

Oh ok, yeah, that's doable. Bungee cord, coat hangers...wrap around the coils of you rear spring or anywhere else to hang the caliper. Keep an eye on your brake lines as you decide on where to hang the caliper, don't stretch to much or bend/kink the line. If you remove the brake lines, you will have to bleed, best not to disconnect them. I removed the black boots during painting, they pop right back on.

or you can leave the boots on. spread some of the grease from inside the boot, all over the outside of them so the paint won't stick....it'll wipe right off after and protect the boot.

So quick question. I only painted the drum and and whay looks like part of the caliper. Is the circled part supposed to be painted as well?

I didn't paint mine, suppose you could if you wanted to. I was pretty much out of paint after the calipers and rotors. may tackle that next time I change the breakes. Looks good man, happy everything is working out for you.

I know this thread is old but for anyone searching here this may help. I recently found a rattle can paint that holds up better than others I have tried in the past. Its from Rustolem called Farm and Implement paint $9 at Tractor Supply and in limited colors at Menards. I used it for my valve covers and they came out nice. I guess if its tough enough for farm equipment, it should hold up well on calipers. Dries quicker but not too fast. Prep is everything. I used it on my front axles that came unpainted too.
