Earlier this year I broke down and replaced my passenger's side manifold on my 05 v8. I dealt with the ticking sound for almost two years and it finally got to the point that it never went away and sounded like the motor was going to let loose- very embarrassing. I bought the Magnaflow Direct Fit manifold and took it to my local Toyota dealership who indicated it was no problem installing the "aftermarket" part and that it would be 3 hours labor. I figured it was better to take it to them since they have experience with these trucks and the tight fit of the engine bay rather than take my chances with a local garage.
Anyways, they got everything done, but when I picked it up, there was a big leak coming from the flange where the manifold meets up with the Y-pipe; the typical ffft, ffft, ffft, sound a donut leak makes. Took it back and they fixed it no harm no foul, but they indicated that the reason for the leak was the "aftermarket" part is not a precise fit and the stock Toyota gasket did not work. They had to find a gasket in the shop that would fit to stop the leak.
Fast forward to present day and the reason for this post- I am now replacing the driver's side which began to leak shortly after I got the passenger's side fixed, as well as the dual-cat Y-pipe assembly which is also leaking due to corrosion and age. I have the Manifold-to-Head gasket but what are the gaskets I would use for the manifold flange to Y-pipe, as well as the Y-pipe Union (where the two halves come together) and the Y-pipe to the muffler section? Any Magnaflow owners out there have any experience in this area?
The predicament is that Magnaflow does not make gaskets for these pieces. I was told to just use the Toyota gaskets since they are exact matches but Toyota said they don't work.
