Can 5th gen wheels work on my 4th gen 4 runner

3 of my 4th gen sensors are bad but the new wheels and tires from the 2018 are coming with the sensors. Would you know if the 5th gen sensors are compatible with our 4th gen? Would they work?

I'm still flirting with the idea of getting a set of TE (now TRD Trail or whatever) wheels too. I'm really hoping to get rid of my Spidertrax and not have issues with my 285/70 Duratracs but it sounds like there's no consensus and I'll only know once I get them.

Anyway, what's a good price for these wheels anyway? There's a take-off set for $575 on CL here, but I was thinking maybe a slightly used set would go for $400 or so?

I paid $500 in Denver for brand new take offs, $575 isn’t a bad deal. My 285 KO2s fit without rubbing (without wheel spacers)after I pushed the wheel liner forward and slight trimming on the lower edge of the front bumper.

Also plenty of UCA clearance, at least with LR SPC upper arms

2012 FJ wheels with skinny tires

I went skinny with 255/75/17 on my FJ Takeoffs. I like these as they are not as common. The only lift I have with mine is FJ Trail suspension swap. So with the skinny tires and suspension swap, I have only about a 1 inch lift, give or take.

No Rubbing at all. I might go bigger after these Jeep tire takeoffs wears out but if too big and the 4Runner is too tall, I'll have a hard time loading my kayaks.

I am thinking to swap my tires to the new rims. Does anyone know if the 5th TPMS sensor will be programmed to the 4th gen? Thanks in advance!

did you check to make sure if the TPMS light is not coming from your spare? after I took the weights off the spare, it holds air better and my TPMS light is off. The weights on the spare rusts and causes the air to leak.

about the reprograming, I would assume so but never done it. good luck

I have early 5th gen trail wheels on mine, but they're also +15 offset with 265/70r17 tires. Stock is actually 265/65r17 on +30 wheels, but the 265/70r17s are only 1" diameter larger and fit fine on stock suspension. Speedometer with read 3.14% under actual speed due to the larger tires, but its not really an issue. Mine only rub when combining brake and tight turn (like u turning while slowing down from 45mph) or reversing and turning in side sloped scenario

Sounds good dude! There are also some simple mods to get the tire not to rub the fender liner at all with 265/70s, I just haven't gotten around to it yet lol.

Sorry for nitpicking, but although the diameter difference is 3.3% the speedo difference would be less than 2% (considering it was reading higher to begin with the difference is less that negligible)

Gotcha, I was just assuming circ_small=pi*dia_small and the bigger size was circ_big=pi*dia_big and the speedometer scaled off circ_big/circ_small. I have noticed on worn 265/65s the speedo read slightly under, so it makes since about a negligible difference. For curiosity sake, where can/how can I calculate how much the speedo is off by?

It has proven to be fairly accurate in its assesment when I compared my speedo to a GPS.
