I have a friend who was bitten by a brown recluse and took about a year to get over it. Just a very little spider.

Buddy of mine in the Corps was too. Spent a little over a week in the hospital. Still no reason to be scared of spiders.

And we have brown recluse, and black widows. Still don't have an irrational fear of spiders. Matter of fact, I've caught many spiders in my house and put them outside.
Know what poisonous spiders are in your area and how to identify them. Still not a reason to be scared of them.

If you have a spider phobia or are OCD and are freaked, here is your solution.

1. Get your shop vacuum and clean out all the crap at the air intake screens.
2. Start the truck, A/C off, fan off, vents set to floor, and close the recirculating vent.
3. Drive or idle to get the temperature hot.
4. Park the truck in the sun, keep engine on.
5. Turn the temperature control to max hot, fan to high.
6. Let truck idle for about 5 minutes like this to get the inside good and hot. This will cook, or desiccate, or pulverize the spider in the fan blades, if it happened to make its way inside past the filter. You can get out of the vehicle during this time, in case spider parts gets flung out of a floor vent.
7. Open the vent to allow outside air to come in for about a minute, then close the vent again. If your vacuuming didn’t get the spider this will suck that sucker in and will get caught by the cabin air filter.
8. Let the truck idle 5 more more minutes.
9. Turn truck off, shut door, lock it up.
10. Let it sit in the sun to stay hot for several hours to continue to cook the spider in case it is stuck in the cabin filter.
11. Open cabin filter case, remove filter and check for spider. Vacuum out the fan, filter, and filter box.
12. Vacuum the floor mat to get rid of possible spider parts.
13. Congratulate yourself and have 2 to 3 stiff drinks to calm your nerves after this ordeal! :cheers:

I cleaned out my cabin filter a few days ago. I had a half dozen dried leaves on top of it. I guess they fall in when I drive under the trees on my driveway.

Wow, at least two suggestions to run the engine and heater for a while. Great idea. Use 275 hp and a quart of fuel to kill a 3 gram spider. :madgrin:

Has no one thought of fly paper? Do they still make that stuff?

Let it live. Maybe it'll eat the ants that are crawling in for that candy bar you left in the console on a hot day.

Had a cat sleeping on top of my old 2000 4runner after a trip as the hood was a nice warm sleeping spot. Didn't really think much of it ... until the next day when I get in and kick on the heater. The smell was unreal. Cat piss in the vents. f**k that cat. It went missing one day and we think a coyote ate it.
My daughter was sad ... I had a beer. :beer:

Took many cleaning treatments to solve that one.

In the end anytime there is an opening for air the risk of something getting in exists. The only thing I've seen used is cutting up old screen doors for vents to keep out general bugs, especially mosquitoes in parts of the country where they get real bad.

The cat story is too funny. My wife (not me) has 3 cats and I know exactly what that's like.

No need to cut up your front door screen. They sell screen material at screen shops and some of the better building supply stores. :biggrin2:
