Can anyone with a T4RPAM from Expedition Essentials talk me out of it?

I’ve been doing exhaustive research on what phone mount to get. It’s ultimately boiled down to a simple RAM mount, a Proclip mount, or the T4RPAM. I like the RAM mount, but if I’m going to drill into the center console I might as well make that thing Swiss cheese with the PAM. Proclip requires no drilling, but I feel like I’m going to grow out of it the more I off-road.

Thoughts, prayers, anything to help ease my brain?

Many options for a phone mount, but like you say, the T4RPAM will hold a bunch of other gear as well.

I bit the bullet and installed mine just yesterday. No regrets and love how modular and customizable it is. The Ram Mount parts are top notch too, better than I've seen from any other similar product.

I reduced the amount of holes I needed to drill by removing the clock module altogether. That meant just drilling the sides of the dash trim piece, and not the top black plastic etc.

Piggy backing off this thread has anyone looked into just installing one of the two ram tracks on the top of the console? I know you will be missing the usb power with the T4RPAM but its cheaper, allows the movement of items on the fly, and less bulky.

No, because it was backordered when I purchased mine. I will probably need to upgrade to it so I can keep my tablet screen always on during a trip, but the regular charger isn't that bad for the time being.

Can you go into a little more detail or provide a link to “removing the clock module altogether”. Haven’t heard of that part before, how did that save you drilling.

If you watch the T4RPAM install video on YouTube, they say to drill into the top part of the radio bezel piece in order to fasten two bolts, and cut a square notch in the same piece to run the USB charger wires through.

But when you have the radio bezel off, there are 2 screws easily within reach that hold the clock module to the dash. With it removed, it leaves a large hole for your various wires to run through (in addition to the USB charger, I have two other cables for the ham radio) without cutting anything. I didn't bother to fasten the two bolts up top either after seeing how sturdy everything was with just the sides bolted in place.

This is the route I intend to take with mine. Cheap and modular, good find!

At first I did the clip on mounts, one went on the air vent and the other along the console, I believe from Pro Clip. They worked but were less than ideal. The phone mount blocked the air vent which sucked, and the console mount left my tablet all in the way of getting to the 4wd shifter, etc, plus wiggled around alot.

I bought a T4RPAM and never looked back. One of the best investments I've made in the truck for sure. Use it literally every day and it's been fantastic.

Install is pretty easy, once it's done it's all enjoyment from that point on. Order one, you'll thank us later!

Inevitably you'll want a phone mount for it....may I highly recommend Hondo Garage's Perfect Squeeze. Absolutely fantastic, rock solid, and versatile with different sized phones.


Another note...At first I did all Ram ball for mounts. I like Ram, they make a good product, however one downside is that when hot, such as the summer months, the wax or whatever is on the ram balls gets hot and soft and they will not hold tightly.

I recently swapped over to 67 designs for my arms and mounts. Night and day difference, rock solid. Highly recommend 67 Designs!


Now that we've helped you spend a few hundred bucks, carry on OP....haha

Be careful and ready, since you didn’t mount the top middle, when the passenger airbag deploys that entire bracket may go full swing towards the left into the driver since a small portion of the right bracket covers a small amount of the passenger airbag.

We just finished up installing a T4RPAM in our rig over the weekend.
Like others have said; it's the most convenient, rugged way to hold phones, tablets, GPS devices, and much more. Well worth it!
