I am going to be putting bilstein 5100s this week on my 16 SR5 with stock springs set at 2.5" and a daystar spacer of 1.5" for the rear. Everywhere in in the Bilstein forum says I will not need it. But when I called Toytec to ask, they recommend it and say it will lead to cv boot wear and possibly cause my transfer case to leak oil...!? It is a brand new rig and I don't want to damage it in any way.

Thanks in advance

It's like preventative maintenance, if you run the diff drop kit, you'll be less likely to have to replace CV's or boots for a very long time. I'd recommend it. I'm running one on mine with 3" front lift. Install is super fast too.

I read on the Bilstein 5100 thread though that I would have no issues at 2.5" with stock springs numerous times...I just don't want to void the warranty on another part of the truck if I put the diff drop in....I have read that if you go 3" and up it is recommended but not necessary.

If I plan on upgrading the springs in the future and at that point going with UCAs, will I be fine until then without the diff drop?

Thanks from a newb

I put it on my 3' Toytec lift. I bought the truck with Daystar Spacers and it killed one of the CV boots. When i put on the Toytec lift, I replaced the CV shaft. When I put in the Spacers for the Diff drop there was a noticeable difference in the angle of the CV shafts. Plus they are cheap and its only round Aluminum spacers that go between the sub frame and the mounting tab on the transfer case. Super easy as said before. I would recommend doing it(preventive maintenance).

You don't need it. Take a look at your CV angles now. Before I lifted mine they were practically inverted, meaning they were traveling uphill from the diff to the wheel. Now with 2.5" in the front they have a shallow downward slope to the wheel.

I just looked and they are slightly inverted on the stock suspension, I just saw one thread of a guy whose CV angles were disastrous and he thought he had only gone up 3"...but later realized the combo of spring and icon shock he was running was more like 4.5-5 inches of lift hahah
