Can't start, please help!

It's 27f outside and when I went to start the 4runner it just clicks with many lights on the dash flashing on and off without ever starting.

I also noticed that the auto-hold no longer works(i.e. I have to hold the key to the start position even to make it click and it won't stay there as usual)


I used a multi-meter on the ACC port and it says 12.0 volts when key is in On position with headlights on and simply cut off (to 0) when key is forced to stay in start position.


It has only seated there for 2 days and last time when I start it it starts effortlessly after like 3 or 4 cranks.


So could anyone give me some suggestions on what might have gone wrong and what shall I do?

Sounds like your battery is no longer able to maintain voltage when there is a load on it. Jump the t4r with cables. You likely need a new battery.

I asked a friend to jump it tomorrow but still wondering which battery shall I get afterwards?

Will the "true-start" ones sold by the dealer be okay to hold up for like 2 years in somewhere like Illinois?

Btw. There will be a lot of short trips.

The dealer Panasonic is a top tier battery. It will last 2 years easy, probably more like 4 or 5. That appears to be around when they start going.

Don't feel you have to get it, but if you do; yes it will last you well. You can obviously look at other brands. Deep cycle batteries really exceed well at what you are talking about.
