I would imagine it is easy to tweek the frame though no? It just seems it could cause a lot more damage then a bumper that absorbs the impact. Not hating I am just wondering.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. it looks as if my bumper is tweaked upward at the mounts. If its deemed frame damage it will be totaled. I wouldn't sell this thing for a penny under 10k, so the around 7k KBB value that I'd get from insurance would be horrible.

I'm hoping they just write me a check for a couple grand for parts and labor, and I'll throw a brand new ARB bumper, do the work myself and pocket the rest.

Therein lies the putting.

If the bumper doesn't give, the force transfers to the next thing that will.

On a slow speed accident you probably win (ie, offroading), but come to a big accident it may look like it's a benefit, but either something else gave, or the person inside took much higher acceleration forces.

Sadly, we can't get away from physics. The benefit is you save big offroading with bumps and grinds.

That being said I wonder how much my small lipped tinfoil bumper would prevent. There's a reason they went fat lipped. I'm sure they crash test a lot better, but I can't get over the look. Darwin award?

If you were at a 4 way intersection, then the speeds involved in this collision are highly unlikely to cause frame damage, even with a reinforced bumper that doesn't absorb energy in the same way a stock bumper would. It's far more likely that your bumper mounting brackets/pieces are twisted a little. You could probably use something like a porta-power to bend it back in shape.

Did you make that bumper? Fab shop?

Just wondering how value is determined for a custom bumper, not that it really matters. If it was a one off made by you in your garage I suppose you can supply parts and time costs. Or show comparable from ARB, Shrockworks, etc.

Hopefully the frame isn't bent otherwise installing an ARB might be a little tough.
