Car Alarms, Necessary?

i have a viper alarm system with shock sensors on the car, tilt sensors, hood pins, battery back up, 110 db siren on the inside of the car, ignition kill, and a 1 mile range.

Especially when you have brand new duratrac's on there. How you liking your tires? I have put about 6 thousand miles on mine and they just rock, especially climbing up these desert mountains around here in hot ass AZ. And smooth as butter on the road, gotta love em!!

I actually just wanted to see how people felt on the topic, my mind was made up before i created the thread.

first of all i love the duratracs. amazing tire all around with my on road experiences, but to stay on topic, yes, my tilt sensors trigger the alarm if someone trys to jack it up to steal the wheels and tires.
its just a good piece of mind knowing that i have that added protection, especially with my sound system, and all the nice sunglasses i have in there, even though they are out of view

Agreed with everyone said above! It just gives you that sense of security. I have enough problems! :cursin:
Having that said, I just installed a 5901 yesterday! I think the installers messed up though, when I check the temperature inside my 4Runner its always 20 degrees higher than what it should be.

I agree with the other responses too. I am kind of paranoid about people doing stuff to my ride, even though that kind of stuff doesn't happen very often around where I live.

mistaj0hnny- it will always read about 20 degrees higher, the installer will have placed the brain close to the firewall. The heat from the firewall is transfered to the brain so he reading is higher. Also because the brain is covered by the dash and other items it doesn't get free flowing air that is more relative to the inside temperature. The only way to solve this problem would be to mount the brain in plain sight inside the vehicle, not the best location.

Very! The only thing I have problems with is the shock sensor sensitivity. I'm going to probably head back to the shop and have them adjust that. Otherwise, great system! The 2-way remote is badass. I look forward to adding on additional security like the proximity and tilt sensors.
juiceboxer- thanks for the info, that's what I was thinking. Oh well! Would have been nice to have an accurate temp!

It is possible to adjust the shock sensor yourself, it involves a few button presses on the remote but it is pretty simple, might be a good Idea if the shop is far. LMK if you are interested in instructions.

Yes, I do. I installed it myself so I have a little better knowledge about the 5901 than someone who paid to have it installed.

Too much gray area to say the are necessary or unnecessary. If you drive a relatively stock 4Runner and park in a good area every night then it probably isn't necessary. I have had my 4Runner broken into twice where I live. It's not that it's necessarily a bad area but its kind of dark and I have a nice cd player. As long as I don't forget to take off the faceplate, then it's fine but if I leave it on it seems there is a bout a 50% chance I'm going to wake up to a broken window.
