DIY throttle kill switch

Hi everyone, very interesting thread! I want to secure my 2011 sr5 4Runner, but I live in a place that gets pretty cold in winter so I'd love to be able to keep my remote start working.

The sprint booster kill switch idea on the throttle sensor is very interesting for that purpose, but I'm absolutely not interested in its main feature so not worth the price, and it will be too visible and lead straight to a plug very easy to remove...

So I want to go for a splice kill switch directly on the harness, my only problem is there seem to be quite a few wires leaving that plug and I'm not sure which one to slice in... Can anyone help me with that?

Dont worry about it. If the 5th Gen is anything like the 4th Gen (which I would think they are), the 5th Gen should have an immobilizer in the ignition. You will not be able to start the 4Runner without the Key. The only time I've heard of a 4th Gen get stolen is because the driver left the key in the ignition.

The only way they can steal the 4th and 5th Gen is with a tow truck or if someone has one of the original keys or copied the key/chip.

Unless you have the 5th gen that’s push to start. They just have to wait until you use the key fob to unlock the car to copy the signal.

About a month or two ago, the news reported a lot of Lexus and Toyota’s being stolen because of that.

Copying the code won’t work, it’s Like a rolling code. What they use is a relay device that retransmit the communications between the key-fob and the car. Everything has to be within range and in real time.
You can buy these chips that will disconnect the battery in the key if no movement is detected within a set time period or place it in a shielded bag.

The vehicle can't be stolen from using the remote start as it shuts off as soon as you open the door, and they key fob is needed for restart.

Unless they have your key or a flat bed tow truck, I’m not sure how they would steal your 4Runner.
