Cargo bay D-Rings through the tray suggestions please

As the title states, I'd like to be able to access the D-rings through this tray, BUT, I don't want to just cut holes in the tray rendering it useless in cases of wet or dirty cargo. Seems like I need some type of waterproof grommet I guess, but haven't seen anything online that may work. How have you guys with the rear tray addressed this?

I don't know. Came with the truck from the original owner. There are no markings on it, but I suspect it may be part of the Toyota mud/snow mat package as the front and rear mats are Toyota / 4Runner badged.

Not much help but i just slit the mat on mine. You probably could remove the d rings, drill holes in the mat, then install the d rings on top of the mat. Apply sealant to each bolt when you install them so the mat is still sealed.

^Duh! Makes alot of sense. Simple. To the point. Thank you. It also limits the ability to easily remove the tray for cleaning purposes. That may be a trade off though.

I'm interested in any other ideas or approaches you guys have taken.

I have one in our 80 series but I had to cut it to use with the 3rd row dow. Sure has saved alot of messes with the kids back there. For the cargo tie downs I just pull up the mat a little and use my strap to attach, but I dont carry stuff that much. I dont see an issue with just cutting a slit, its not like you are going to be throwing a gallon of water back there. I think the main purpose is to protect the rear cargo carpet mat that also covers the rear cargo carpet. Theres a bunch of protection back there anyways.

I say just cut a slit for each D-ring & pull them through the liner. If you unscrew the D-rings & re-mount through the liner, that may push the liner down @ each corner, creating a low spot for water to collect if you do have water on the liner (just an idea). Then the liner will still be easy to remove & clean when you need/want to.

I like that liner, I need to get one--to hide the grease stains from hauling my shop floor jack a while back. :redbrick:

I rarely use the D-rings so I wouldn't slit mine. I carry 5-gal gas tanks, nasty pool chemicals and big greasy tractor parts so I have to pressure wash the thing frequently and I like a leak-proof liner. The screw-down idea really would not work for me. If I really need the rings, I'll just fold the corner or pull the liner for that run. I have a big Rubbermaid box that is always in the truck, and I'll put smaller stuff in there rather than tie it.
