Cartzo's 87 4Runner Homemade Long-Travel Build

I took apart my transmission to clean out what was left of the washer. I replaced the rear main seal and dropped the oil pan too because I'm pretty sure they were leaking a bit. I found where I was leaking coolant. I don't even know what it is but I tightened it up so hopefully that fixes it.

Everything in the tranny seemed fine as far as I could tell so I just cleaned it up and put it back together. All I replaced was the input/output shaft seals and the shifter bushing and seat. I put it all back together and it worked amazing. I was super surprised. It even stays in 1st gear on it's own now which I wasn't expecting at all. It is way less sloppy. While it was out I de-greased and power washed it. I cut my finger pretty good and ended up getting stitches. I didn't bother cleaning the blood off the tranny.

I took the yota camping up Cottonwood canyon and it did amazing. Got nice and muddy getting this guys car unstuck which sucks. I hate mud. I think it looks better all muddy though :D

Just tonight the tranny started making that grinding and squealing noise again though :( I'm not sure what it is but it only happens around 1000 rpm. It's really loud and annoying so hopefully it works itself out somehow and I don't have to drop the tranny again...

Even though we talk every day, I have to reiterate how gorgeous that rear bumper is--especially being painted! :jaw:

And that rear ass shot of the truck with the bumper and stickers is a solid 10!

I don't appear to have a corner light in any of these photos

At least I don't have a fat ass front bumper though :whip:

Cartzo I'm bored at work so thought I could brighten your day by posting random stupid stuff on your thread since no one else posts in it

Well I guess I could throw in at least one update this summer...

So snivilous and I have been planning on building LT for a few months now. We moved in together and have started to build LT for his 3rd gen. Once I get my road bike back together I'll pull the front end apart and start measuring for my LT. The plan is to make both designs bolt in so that we can possibly produce some kits for people that don't want to drop $5k for LT. After we have finalized our bolt in designs, we will modify and improve until the maximum amount of CV travel is utilized to get the most out of our Yotas. We ordered some FOA coilovers because we are broke, but Fox's or Kings will be in the future :D

Here are some pictures of my suspension right now. I've put the stock IFS to the test and I can't explain how impressed I am with it though it's time has come. The boots on both CVs are blown open. Shocks are completely gone. Missing bushings and oil. The shock shafts or wrecked from being over extended. The steering stabilizer is ripped out of the mount. I believe one of my spindles is bent, but I'm not sure. I really hope not.

I found out that my rear shocks may be limiting down travel which sucks. My shackle angle is terrible too so I'm wanting to cut my shackle mounts and move them forward to fix the shackle angle. I think that will also bring the lift down a bit in the rear which would be awesome. I'm hoping it will make the ride quality the way it should be and I'll be able to use my up travel. Even when jumping I haven't touched the bumpstops since I put the SAWs in.

My starter did the weird little thing where it wouldn't stop cranking again. I tested it multiple times and it tested fine. I switched out my ignition switch with one from a junkyard. Nothing changed. I tried wiring a master switch in to bypass a wiring issue. Nothing changed. Finally I had nothing else to try so I threw in a new starter and it fixed the problem.. So if you're having starting issues and your starter tests good, it may still be the problem.

I went on a long wheeling trip and my oil pressure gauge dropped down to nothing in the middle of the trip. It made me very nervous but I was alone and deep in the mountains so I drove 40 miles out and nothing seemed wrong. I am still driving like that now and it seems fine. I'm thinking the plug may have come out in the cluster. I really don't want to have to replace the oil pump. I have my hands busy with LT for the next month or so.

That's all I can remember at the moment!
