CB Radio in 3rd gen Runner.

so.... since the only 2 sizes i found on amazon are 9 feet and 18 feet. do i have to get a custom cut cable? if 18 seems to work for others, even if its not the best option wouldnt i be fine using it the same way they do?

If the 9' is too short, buy the 18' and cut it back before you put the connector on it. I used an 18', wove the excess underneath the centre console and got damn near perfect SWR readings.

The setup I was looking at was on amazon. 4' firestik, 3'' antenna spring, and 18' coaxial cable but it appeared to have both ends attached already.

By the time you get the cable up behind the dash, going under the carpet, all the way to the back corner and out side the vehicle, you will be close to 18' anyway. You may need to find a creative route to take to use up the whole 18', just DO NOT coil the cable up, that ruins the signal.

My boyfriend has a 3rd Gen, 2000 4runner, and has been wanting a CB radio and firestik antenna. I am looking to get him this for Christmas, but i need some opinions on what the best brand/fit would be for his runner.

The Uniden Pro 520xl is a very good unit and it will install in the slot where the ashtray goes if the ashtray is removed. There are several posts on that installation on this site.

Am I missing the part of the install threads where the OP shows you how to route the coax cable, or is that actually missing from the threads? I feel pretty comfortable with most of the install at this point, but I have no idea where to hide 18 feet of coax from the dash to the rear bumper.
Sorry if it's there and I just keep missing it. I tend to read these threads when it slows down at work, late into a 12 hour overnight shift. Not at my sharpest right now.

Get creative, depending on how you are routing it you can do things like running it partially up the B pillar then back down to the rocker, then back up the C pillar and down, or you can bring it from one side to the other under the carpeting. Personally I cut it and solder on a new end so it is close to the length I need. Eighteen feet Schmeighteen feet. I've used 11 ft, 10 ft, 12 ft, and still got good matches. :juggle:
