has anyone been able to put a CB into their runner? i don't think i have enough room next to my radio... also, where did you place the antenna? pics would be much appreciated.

not the best shot but here is my cobra 19xiv cb in the ashtray spot which is pretty popular... my antenna bracket is mounted on my tail light guard tho i plan to drill a hole in my ARB bumper to fit the antenna instead.

My radio is installed in the back, faceplate is what is shown. The speaker is in it and plenty loud for me to be able to hear it.

I took a path of least impact. I have no extra holes for mine. I mounted the antenna on the rear bumper and ran coax into the truck through the taillight. I ran power from the battery thruogh the same route as the regualr antenna. I mounted the radio bracket to the rear console with double sided tape. No extra holes.

ive got a full size uniden
and a 3foot wilson antenna with fender mount
that's the CB I have! I'd like to have my antenna mounted either on the rear bumper or either one of the rear fenders.
oh cool, looking forward to seeing those.

I've never hit it with my leg (and I'm 6') and don't notice it's even there. Mine has a bottom mounted speaker so I couldn't really put it in the dash or on the side of the hump where Elton mounted his and still be able to hear it well. This was really my only choice, but it worked out just fine.

brian, i originally put mine there when i first got my cb but after a while it got kinda annoying and i wanted a nicer finished look so i put it in my ashtray spot and love it much better there.

No doubt the ashtray looks cleaner, I just coudln't hear it well and didn't feel like buying a different CB. I paid $29 for this one and I was determined to use it, haha. Plus I'm not going for looks as you can tell by the dirt on my dash.

Lots of great ideas and pics here. Just for start I've opted to go with "tuned" Midland's hand held 75-822 to be hooked to the passenger side dash using a ClipCaddy. Still waiting for Wilson "lil wil" magnet mount antenna to arrive which then will be tuned to the CB using the SWR meter. Plus an external speaker since this model is known to be weak on speaker output. All in all this package is known to reach out 5+ miles with everything properly aligned. Once everything gets hooked up I'll update this post with pics.

please do a write up on this, cb's are cool but nothing when compared to a proper ham.
do you do any skipping or dx'ing with your 2m? what sort of results are you getting with that in the truck?

I was thinking of installing a mobile VHF unit in the center console. I don't usually put anything in the center console storage area, and that way it would be completely hidden and out of the way, but still easily accessible.

I will, won't be until February or April though.
My father has a 2m ham is his F-150, same unit as I plan to get. I mess with it sometimes when I see him. With the geography of the Albuquerque area (5k-6k ft. elevation city on the foothills of a 13k ft. mountain). That mountain is the radio antenna mecca for central and northern NM. So, as you can imagine, he gets fairly decent reception in the city, haha.
But we did take a camping/hunting trip about 300 miles southwest of Abq a few months back, and while still linked to one of the Sandia mountain repeaters, we heard people way up in Colorado springs clear as day.
