So I mostly creep on these forums now since most of the content is garbage, but this thread is relevant to my interests. I just went from 35s to 37s on my 2018, and was curious if you ever came up with a steering solution. The 35s already destroyed one PS pump, so I added a cooler and filter. I have plans for beefier TREs, but the rack and mounts are now going to be the weak point.

Having wheeled with your 37s and enjoying hindsight, in general what would you have done differently from the beginning?

I really love what you do with your rig. I'm not quite ready for major body damage yet, but I don't mind some minor bumps and scrapes. If you're ever in the Southeast, let me buy you a beer.

I agree, the 5th gen "wheeling" game is weak and even more pathetic on facebook pages.

I've been wheeling the 37s for a couple of years now. I'm on my second OEM steering rack. It didn't even enjoy turning 35s. I was planning on trying a Tundra rack. May still do it. I'm not so certain the brake system can keep up well with them either. I just wheel smart and know when not to keep hammering into something. The rack and tie rods have always been what's held me back knowing how weak it is. Just have to understand that. Definitely a different story if you're just doing mellow trails and dirt roads but still, things can happen.

Oh yeah! I've been there a few times and finally got to wheel it. We were wheeling one or two greens and a few blues. It put my driveshaft into my gas tank and skid so I had to get off the trails a little earlier than I was expecting. I'll be back there many times.

oh man!!! the new rig looks unstoppable! Those trails look like a lot of fun, and out of reach of about 99% of us.

Didn't have an extra shock but I was only an hour from my house so I just drove it home after I removed the shock.

The master wasn't bad until I couldn't get it to bleed. That's when it turned into a headache.

Haven't heard of that shop. I do most of my work myself. Try to keep it out of shops as much as I can unless it's something that I just can't do or get too aggravated with.

Nice update. Your rig definitely goes down as the hardest ran 5th gen I've ever seen on this forum since I joined, let alone those Instagram glamour shots on IG.

Retiring the 4Runner from buggy trails. Planning on rebuilding somethings on it and keeping it for mellow runs/camping.

87/88 frame
89 body
95 2.7 3rz 5 speed
2.28/4.7 twin sticks
GM Dana 60 front with some lunch box locker
14 Bolt rear and welded
39.5s
Chevy 63 rear leafs
Toyota rear leafs up front
bobbed and doved bed
NEW - I had installed a Trail Gear Power Flow power steering pump, cooler and reservoir. Factory pump pretty much died on me when I got it and couldn't push enough fluid to the ram for the hydro assist. Waiting on new radiator to arrive to completely finish the install.

I plan on linking the front and rear in the near future but want to see how it does with the leafs.

Sometimes, actually a lot, I wish I had my old Hilux SAS, it was a blast. I still think about build one again.

Agreed. No one on this forum wheels as hard as you do Chris, and let alone tear it down themselves to fix all the broke parts.
Here in Florida some one mindlessly does a "full send" into a puddle, hydro locks it, and he's an all star wheeler. It's pretty disgusting actually.

It's just gotten very expensive wheeling the 4Runner. Nothing is cheap for it.

Ordered two new skids. Previous ones were demolished. RCI 1/4" aluminum gas tank skid and 3/16" steel transfer case skid. Added 1/2" thick UHMW and countersunk 3/4" bolts to gas tank skid.

Wanted to read through the whole thread but I have to get back to wor... what i was doing. Love this truck man. Used and abused trucks and sports cars make my weiner twitch.

I thought my truck was beat to hell underneath but I see know what I have going on is rookie shit.

Going with a non swing out rear myself. Looks like you put the cbi through the ringer. Any complaints?

Leaf Springs

Building a new leaf pack for the rear.
Used set off a 2003 Chevy 1/2 - 3/4 ton.
Was 2 springs per pack, now 3.
New bushings.
