CEL:P0440| After New Charcoal Canister

Hello All,
I'm new to the T4R game and started reading about the issue when I figured out what the code was. I purchased my Runner out in Las Vegas a few months back and drove it home to Texas. When I got back into town, I topped it off and parked it until i had it registered a few days later. When I went to move it out of the garaged, I noticed that the CEL came on, along with the VSC OFF/TRAC lights. I took it over to Auto Zone to have them check the code and they told me that it was a P0440. I went back home and checked out on this forum that topping off was a common issue with T4Rs and that the Charcoal Canister may be bad. Within the week, I ordered and replaced the Canister, and no problems, until today. I've only gotten gas twice since the replacement, and neither times, did i attempt to top off at all. Has this happened to anyone?

I had it when I bought mine. I replaced the gas cap and no issues since then. It's been well over a year since I've seen that code.

I don't know dude. I've been topping off my truck for 12 years now and I've never had that code. I'm at 230k miles on the original charcoal canister, not sure if my 97 even has one.

I had it when I bought mine. I replaced the gas cap and no issues since then. It's been well over a year since I've seen that code.

I went to one of the Dealerships here in town and picked one up, do I need to reset the ECU or should I just wait until it cycles for it to go away? One of the mechanics told me that i should wait a few days for it cycle for it to cut off.

Clear the code. I too, get to join the good ol' p0446 club ('01). Doesn't sound fun but gots to be dealt with. I found plenty of info quickly.

Thanks for the info! I replaced the Gas Cap, reset the ECU and it looks the Code popped again today while driving. I'm lead to believe that I have a leak somewhere. When I park in the garage, I smell a small hint of gas fumes. I'll have to see if my buddy has a Smoke Detector for leaks at his shop.
